Colloidal Silver’s Astonishing Effectiveness Against Drug-Resistant Superbugs

Click here to learn how to make colloidal silver
The global medical authorities are whipping up the public again with scary new stories of a coming “antibiotic apocalypse” due to the continuing spread of drug-resistant superbugs.

But while they’re working to scare the bejabbers out of the general public, they offer no concrete solutions whatsoever to the growing crisis.  They just keep repeating the mantra that one day antibiotic drugs will simply no longer work against the superbugs.

Yet the solution to drug-resistant superbugs has been known for decades, and that solution is antimicrobial silver, also known as colloidal silver.

Even some of the most recent clinical studies continue to bear out that fact that safe, natural colloidal silver not only kills common pathogens like Staph and E. coli, but also kills numerous drug-resistant superbugs that the medical authorities claim to be so concerned about.

Here’s the story no one else is reporting…

Hi, Steve Barwick here, for The Silver Edge

Well, the scare-mongering over antibiotic-resistant superbugs is back in the news again.

First, in early March 2017, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a warning about three specific superbugs that “pose the greatest threat to human health.”

In their warning, they listed the following three pathogens:
  • Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii
  • Carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE)
According to LiveScience.com, “All of the top three pathogens on the list are resistant to a group of antibiotics called carbapenems. These antibiotics are sometimes referred to as "last resort" medications, because if they don't work, very few options are left.”

The WHO went on to say that up to 51% of people infected with these drug-resistant pathogens end up dying of their infections.

The WHO then listed six more drug-resistant pathogens in what they termed their “high priority” category, which are:
  • Enterococcus faecium, vancomycin-resistant
  • Staphylococcus aureus, methicillin-resistant, vancomycin-intermediate and resistant
  • Helicobacter plyori, clarithromycin-resistant
  • Campylobacter spp., fluoroquinolone-resistant
  • Salmonellae, fluoroquinolone-resistant
  • Neisseria gonorrhoeae, cephalosporin-resistant, fluoroquinolone-resistant
And finally, the WHO then listed three medium-priority drug-resistant pathogens, which are:
  • Streptococcus pneumoniae, penicillin-non-susceptible
  • Haemophilus influenzae, ampicillin-resistant
  • Shigella spp., fluoroquinolone-resistant
A few days after the WHO released their warning, Harvard University Medical School released a video purporting to show antibiotic-resistant bacteria in a petri dish mutating to become immune to up to 1,000 times the normal dosage of antibiotic drugs.

The news article accompanying the video went on to call the scenario painted in the video as an “antibiotic apocalypse” and a “doomsday phenomenon that could kill 10 million people a year.” And it pointed out that more people are now dying each year from drug-resistant superbug infections than from breast cancer.

And the only mention in the WHO warning and the article accompanying the Harvard Medical School video of any kind of a solution is that eventually the public is going to have to accept the fact that antibiotic drugs with severe side effects will eventually have to be employed in the battle against the superbugs.

No Mention of Colloidal Silver

What’s not mentioned, of course, is the fact that safe, natural antimicrobial silver has already been demonstrated in numerous clinical studies to kill many of these same drug-resistant “superbugs” mentioned above by WHO and Harvard Medical University.

In fact, here are three recent clinical studies demonstrating silver’s effectiveness against a wide variety of drug-resistant pathogens; read them carefully because it will blow your mind to see how effective colloidal silver really is against the drug-resistant superbugs:

Clinical Study #1:  Colloidal Silver Kills up to 99.7% of Six Multidrug-resistant Superbugs! In this fascinating clinical study published in the World Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology in 2010, it was found that antimicrobial silver killed up to 99.7% of drug-resistant bacteria, including some of the most virulent multidrug-resistant strains.  The study authors stated:  “In our study, antimicrobial silver nanoparticles exerted a bactericidal effect against six drug-resistant bacterial strains… the same nanosilver concentration inhibited 99.7% of erythromycin-resistant Streptococcus pyogenes, 95.7% of ampicillin-resistant E. coli and 92.8% of multidrug-resistant P. aeruginosa.”  The researchers further concluded that silver exhibited bactericidal effect rather than merely bacteriostatic effect.  That’s important news, because it means the use of antimicrobial silver is so effective against drug-resistant strains, it outright kills them rather than merely inhibiting their growth!

Clinical Study #2:  Colloidal Silver Kills Antibiotic-Resistant Staph, E. Coli, Pseudomonas and SalmonellaIn this clinical study, titled “Colloidal Silver as a New Antimicrobial Agent,” published in the respected International Journal of Microbiological Research in 2010, the researchers demonstrated that colloidal silver effectively decimated antibiotic-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureusEscherichia coliPseudomonas aeruginosa and Salmonella typhi.  The researchers concluded, “Resistant clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Salmonella typhi were used as the test organisms.  This study demonstrated powerful antimicrobial activity of colloidal silver against all multidrug-resistant clinical pathogens tested.”

Clinical Study #3:  Colloidal Silver Kills 49 Different Strains of Antibiotic-Resistant Superbugs! In this clinical study titled “The Antimicrobial Efficacy of Silver on Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria Isolated From Burn Wounds,” conducted by researchers at the Department of Pathology at West Virginia University, and published in the International Wound Journal in October 2012, a total of 49 different antibiotic-resistant bacteria were isolated from burn wounds and tested against silver. These deadly, drug-resistant pathogens included Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, multidrug-resistant Vibrio sp, drug-resistant Klebsiella pneumonia, drug-resistant Escherichia coli, multidrug-resistant Acinetobacterbaumannii and 42 others. After exposing these drug-resistant pathogens to antimicrobial silver the researchers concluded, “…all forty-nine antibiotic-resistant bacteria showed susceptibility to the antimicrobial activity of silver…”

As you can see, there’s hardly a superbug in existence that hasn’t been demonstrated by clinical research to be sensitive to antimicrobial silver.  And that includes the deadly MRSA pathogen that kills some 94,000 people per year in the U.S. alone!

What’s more, here’s an article about a clinical study demonstrating that when small amounts of silver are added to existing antibiotic drugs that are no longer effective against drug-resistant microbes, the silver boosts the effectiveness of those drugs by up to 1,000 times and restores their effectiveness against the resistant microbes:
And here’s another article about a study demonstrating that when silver is added to antibiotic drugs that no longer work against the drug-resistant pathogens, the drugs suddenly and miraculously start working again; what’s more, when added to the antibiotic drug ampicillin, the silver restored the drug’s effectiveness against drug-resistant E. coli:
So why all of the scary WHO bulletins and Harvard Medical School videos portraying an imminent global apocalypse caused by drug-resistant pathogens?

It’s simple.

The medical authorities have yet to figure out a way to patent colloidal silver and monopolize its sales.  After all, silver is a completely natural substance.  And the medical Gestapo are aware that if they openly admit silver is the answer to the drug-resistant “superbugs,” people will simply go to their local health food stores and buy some, or get a colloidal silver generator and start making their own colloidal silver, rather than paying through the nose for expensive antibiotic drugs.

Nevertheless, silver really is the solution to the drug-resistant pathogen crisis.  As Dr. Joseph Weissman, M.D. board certified immunologist and Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California Medical School has stated:

"Today, many antibiotics are losing the battle with germs. Fortunately, the best germ killer, which was discovered over 2,000 years ago, is finally getting the proper attention from medical science - natural silver. I sincerely recommend that everyone have electrically generated colloidal silver in their home as an antiseptic, antibacterial and antifungal agent."

As Harvard-educated Dr. Jonathan Wright, M.D. has stated:

“Colloidal silver just might be the next germ-fighting wonder drug. And not just for the serious threats making headlines: It's also effective against bacterial infections like strep throat, viruses like the flu, and fungal infections like Candida.

No matter how much a germ mutates, it can't change enough to escape the damaging effects of colloidal silver. And in the process, the silver doesn't harm human tissue or kill off the good bacteria in the intestine the way antibiotics and other medications do."

As Dr. Ron Leavitt, Ph.D., of the Department of Microbiology at Brigham Young University has stated:

"The data suggests that with the low toxicity associated with colloidal silver, in general, and the broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity of this colloidal silver preparation, this preparation may be effectively used as an alternative to antibiotics."

And as author Zane Baranowski, CN, has stated:

"Silver is one of the most universal antibiotic substances. When administered in the colloidal form, it is for all practical purposes non-toxic. Silver has been proven to be effective against hundreds of infectious conditions.

It has tremendous anti-microbial power; the history of safe and successful colloidal silver use is extensive, and the number of current health professionals and individuals that successfully utilize colloidal silver to reduce the length and severity of infectious disorders is growing exponentially."

Ionic Silver Nanoparticles for Better Food Packaging and Fresher, Safer Food

This new plastic combines cellulose
with clove oil and ionic silver particles
for fresher, safer food (credit: KUT)
Scientists from Lithuania have come up with another new use of ionic silver, and it’s quite astonishing.

They’ve developed a new, completely natural and biodegradable food packaging “plastic” that not only keeps food fresher, longer, but also saves lives by helping stop the spread of food poisoning pathogens.

Here’s the straight scoop on this exciting new innovation you won’t hear anywhere else…

Hi, Steve Barwick here, for The Silver Edge

It’s exciting to find that scientists from Lithuania's Kaunas University of Technology (KUT) have developed a brand new “plastic” food wrap that's not only specifically designed to be biodegradable (because it’s made from natural plant-based cellulose fibers), but that also helps keep food fresher longer than conventional plastic wraps, and prevents food poisoning pathogens from spreading.

I’ll tell you more about that in just a second.  But first, here’s some quick and interesting background information that will be helpful for understanding this astonishing new breakthrough:
So it should come as no surprise when we learn that researchers from Lithuania have discovered a way to create biodegradable plastic food wrapping impregnated with ionic silver nanoparticles.  Here’s what’s happening, according to an article titled Clove and Silver Make for Better Food Packaging:

“…scientists from Lithuania's Kaunas University of Technology (KUT) have developed a new food wrap that's not only biodegradable, but that also keeps food fresh for longer than conventional plastic.

Made mainly from a plant-derived cellulose composite, the new material also contains clove essential oil along with ionic silver nanoparticles.

The clove provides it with anti-oxidizing qualities by binding free radicals, while the silver adds an antimicrobial effect by killing microorganisms.

Surprisingly, it was found that the addition of the silver also makes the plastic more elastic and thus stronger.”

According to the Lithuanian scientists behind this project, the new food wrapping “plastic” degrades in landfills in around two years because it’s largely composed of plant-based cellulose and natural materials, whereas conventional plastic food wrapping produced with synthetic petroleum by-products can remain in landfills for decades without degrading.

What’s more, according to a press release from Lithuania’s Kaunas University of Technology, the silver-based antimicrobial properties of this new food packaging are designed to help cut down on deaths from food poisoning pathogens.  They wrote:

“…more than 350,000 people die from food borne illnesses every year. 52,000 deaths are caused by salmonella, 37,000 by e. coli bacteria, and 40 percent of food poisoning cases are children younger than 5 years old.

Our goal was to create a biodegradable package, which could help to keep food fresh for longer, which could have anti-oxidizing or antimicrobial properties.

…Active components of clove essential oil are very effective in tying free radicals; this oil proved efficient in enriching packaging with anti-oxidizing qualities. This effect helps to keep food fresh for longer, but such a package is not antimicrobial”…

To achieve antimicrobial effect, we added ionic silver particles to the cellulose based packaging. The results we achieved were quite unexpected – the silver particles made the packaging film more elastic and stronger”…

The film which is enriched with silver inhibits the growth of microorganisms and its antimicrobial properties remain active for long periods of time.

In other words, the new cellulose “plastic” food wrap not only helps keep food fresher, longer, but it’s also natural, non-toxic and far more easily biodegradable because it’s composed of plant fiber instead of petroleum byproducts.

It also turns out to be stronger than conventional plastic food wrapping in terms of wear and tear while under use.  Finally, the new “plastic” is more elastic, or flexible, thanks to the silver.

And top it all off, use of this new breakthrough food-wrap can help save lives by keeping food poisoning pathogens in check, thanks largely to the ionic silver nanoparticles the food wrapping is impregnated with!

So, kudos to the Lithuanian researchers behind this product.

All I can add to the conversation is that I hope the radical, anti-silver environmentalists here in the U.S. and around the world don’t get wind of the fact that the product contains ionic silver nanoparticles.  As soon as they hear that, they’ll do the bidding of their big corporate masters and work to destroy the commercial use of this beneficial new product, as they did several years back with the silver-impregnated butcher paper from Israel.

The Israeli Butcher Paper Story

When Israeli researches announced several years ago that they had developed a silver-impregnated butcher paper to help store-bought meats stay fresh longer, and by extension, help prevent food poisoning bacteria from spreading on meats in supermarkets, the radical anti-silver environmentalists came unglued and began vehemently trashing the idea.

Without any evidence at all, they claimed that the colloidal silver nanoparticles being used in the butcher paper were “inherently risky” and would “harm the environment” when the butcher paper ended up in landfills.

I later wrote the article “In Defense of Colloidal Silver Nanoparticles:  It’s Time to Kick Some Environmentalist Butt,” in which I demolished the environmentalist arguments against the use of silver in food packaging and preservation.

What’s more, I pointed out that many of the same U.S. environmental groups who were screaming to high heaven about the supposed “dangers” of silver in food packaging were simultaneously taking tens of thousands, and in some cases even millions of dollars from charitable foundations set up by Big Pharma.

Many observers hold the opinion that these huge sums of money from Big Pharma’s coffers are nothing more than hush money payoffs to keep environmentalist groups railing against mythical “harm” from silver in the environment (which is hilarious, since silver came from the environment in the first place), while in reality the environment is becoming overloaded with tons of toxic drugs and drug residues that now permeate most drinking water in the U.S., potentially causing long-term harm to young and old alike.

Later, as the environmental hysteria against silver spread around the globe, I wrote the article, The Global Environmental Campaign to Ban Antimicrobial Silver, which revealed the true reason for the worldwide environmental campaign against the use of infection-fighting silver in consumer products.

That article was reprinted in foreign press sources around the world, and was largely instrumental in helping quell much of the hysteria.

Antimicrobial Silver for Non-Scientists

Thankfully, you don’t have to be a university scientist to take advantage of the powerful, all-natural disinfectant, food preservation and antimicrobial qualities of ionic silver nanoparticles.

After all, safe, natural colloidal silver – available in most well-stocked health food stores around the country, or easy to make yourself with a simple, kitchen counter top device called a colloidal silver generator -- is composed of pure ionic silver nanoparticles.

Indeed, tens of millions of people around the world use colloidal silver regularly to help keep their families safe and infection-free thanks to its powerful antimicrobial, food-preserving, household disinfecting and infection-fighting properties.

Here are a just few articles you might want to read through to see how colloidal silver is used by millions of families world-wide in their homes and personal lives:

Using Colloidal Silver to Disinfect Drinking Water in Long-Term Storage

Click here to learn how to make colloidal silver...
If you’re a prepper, or if you just want to have some water stored for the long-term in case of earthquake, fire, terrorism, civil disorder or other potential dangers, you’ll need to make sure the water is thoroughly disinfected during storage so microbes don’t get a chance to grow in it.

Thankfully, colloidal silver can effectively be used for disinfecting water during long-term storage.  And there’s another substance you can add, as well, that’s said to boost the disinfectant power of the colloidal silver by up to 1,000 times.

Here’s the details you need to know if you want to keep your water free of microbes during long-term storage…

Hi, Steve Barwick here, for The Silver Edge

There are as many opinions on how much colloidal silver to use for keeping water disinfected during long-term storage as there are people using it.

In other words, everyone has a different opinion, and most of them are based on either hearsay or personal experience.

Because water quality differs from town-to-town, region-to-region and state-to-state (and sometimes even from house-to-house), what works best for one person might not work as well for another.

Nevertheless, the general rule-of-thumb is to use one ounce of 10 ppm colloidal silver per gallon of stored water.  But as a "just in case" measure, I personally use two ounces of 10 ppm colloidal silver per each gallon of water being stored, for maximum long-term disinfection.

This means a five gallon container of water being put into long-term storage in my home would get 10 ounces of 10 ppm colloidal silver.  Yes, that’s overkill.  But again, I want to make sure my stored water is safe to drink when the time comes to use it.

Using Colloidal Silver and Hydrogen Peroxide

While I’m not a big fan of drinking colloidal silver that’s been treated with hydrogen peroxide (unless it’s been given several days for the hydrogen peroxide to dissipate) I do from time-to-time combine hydrogen peroxide and colloidal silver when I put water away to be stored for the long-term.

Many years ago there was a McGill University study on the use of silver and hydrogen peroxide for the treatment of sewage water.  The link I had to that study is now dead.  But according to the study, adding hydrogen peroxide to the colloidal silver-treated water increases the decontamination and disinfection of common microbes such as e. Coli by anywhere from 100 to 1,000 times!

Naturally, that might prove to be a valuable consideration in a long-term water storage program.  According to the study’s authors, the optimal dose for silver and hydrogen peroxide in drinking water is 30 ppb (parts per billion) silver and 30ppm (parts per million) hydrogen peroxide.

Extrapolated to a five gallon storage container, this would suggest the use of 23 drops of standard 3% household hydrogen peroxide, along with about two ounces of a standard 10 ppm colloidal silver solution.

Again, I’m one who believes in overkill in a situation like this where long-term water storage is involved, so I’ve doubled those numbers in my own water storage program, when I choose to add both colloidal silver and hydrogen peroxide together.

Before and After

My personal opinion is that it’s best to use either of these methods (i.e., colloidal silver alone, or colloidal silver with hydrogen peroxide) both BEFORE placing the water into long-term water storage, and then again AFTERWARDS.

In other words, I’ll add my colloidal silver (or colloidal silver and hydrogen peroxide) before putting the water into storage.  And then, when the stored water is needed, I’ll repeat the process before using the water, just in case there was some kind of re-contamination of the water during long-term storage.

Consider Filtration, as Well

Finally, for maximum protection, filtration of the water after long-term storage is very important, in order to get rid of any protozoal cysts such as Giardia that may have been lurking in the stored water from the start.

Many protozoal cysts (of which Giardia is the most common in the U.S.) are not affected at all by the relatively small amounts of colloidal silver, hydrogen peroxide, or even iodine or chlorine bleach frequently used as germicidal and disinfectant agents in water storage.

But because of the relatively large size of these microorganisms (compared to bacteria), filtration through any high-quality gravity fed ceramic filter should do the trick.

In that regard, a company called DoultonUSA has some excellent, gravity fed emergency water filtration units that can filter up to a gallon at a time.

A company called British Berkefeld sells a portable gravity filter, which can hold up to two gallons, and effectively filter up to 10 gallons per day.

What’s particularly neat about the water filters from both of the above companies is that they’re silver-impregnated, so you get additional pathogen germicidal disinfection of the water during the filtration process.

(My company does not sell either of those products, and I don’t have any kind of relationship with the companies, though I do own one of each of the above-mentioned gravity fed water filters.)

When using colloidal silver for water storage, you’ll need to have a lot of it on hand.  As I mentioned, I use 10 ounces of colloidal silver per each five gallon container of water I put into storage.

Of course, colloidal silver can be purchased at just about any local health food store, or through a number of online sources including Amazon.com. However, because it’s such a safe and effective all-natural germicide, it’s quite literally one of the most expensive and heavily marked-up products in the natural health field.

Health food store owners, for example, often charge as much as $20-$30 for a tiny four-ounce bottle of colloidal silver.  Yet the cost to manufacture four ounces of colloidal silver is about 12 cents.  Yes, I said twelve cents

Of course, people are willing to pay through the nose for colloidal silver, since it’s safe and natural, and works so effectively against bacteria, fungi, viruses, infections and related diseases.

But thankfully, there’s no need to pay such exorbitant prices for colloidal silver, when you can make your own, quickly and easily, in the comfort and privacy of your own home, for about 36 cents a quart.

Yes, you can make it yourself for its actual cost – which is to say, a few pennies per quart -- and altogether skip the sky-high mark-ups charged by health food stores!

If you’re interested in learning how to make your own safe, natural, high-quality colloidal silver at home, for about 36 cents a quart, here are some additional short articles you might want to take a look at:
