Colloidal Silver Beats Ringworm Infection

Ringworm is a topical skin condition that causes a red, crusted, scaly-appearing rash that’s often circular in form, erroneously causing people to believe a worm is involved. 

Known medically as tinea (which is Latin for “worm”), it can also cause blister-like lesions.  And when found on the head, its symptoms can include scaling of the scalp and even patches of hair loss.

Occurring most often areas with warm, moist climates, it’s highly contagious and can be passed from person to person by physical contact, or by sharing combs, brushes and other personal care items, or even clothing. 

Ringworm affects millions of people each year in the United States, and tens of millions more worldwide, including millions of children.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has called it “a major public health concern.”

But what exactly is ringworm?  And is colloidal silver known to be an effective treatment for this contagious skin condition?  Here’s the scoop you need to know…

Ringworm is not really a worm.  It's a fungal pathogen – a microscopic dermatophyte that lives off the dead outer layer of your skin.

So ringworm is a topical fungal infection. 

According to Wikipedia, symptoms of ringworm include:

• Red, scaly, itchy or raised patches

• Patches may be redder on outside edges or resembles a ring

• Patches that begins to ooze or develop blister

• Bald patches may develop, when the scalp is affected

• On nail it may be thicker discolored or begin to crack

Wikipedia goes on to say, “To prevent spreading the infection, lesions should not be touched, and good hygiene maintained with washing of hands and the body.”

Ringworm is generally treated with prescription antifungal medications that can be used either topically or orally, usually for six to eight weeks.  However, the effects of these medications for some people can be toxic over time. 

Colloidal Silver to the Rescue

Thankfully, colloidal silver is considered to be very effective against fungal infections, including ringworm.

According to Phyllis A Balch CNC and James F Balch M.D., authors of the bestselling book, Prescription For Nutritional Healing, treating ringworm with colloidal silver is quite simple:

“To treat ringworm, use a sterile pad and apply colloidal silver to the affected area. Hands and feet can also be soaked in this solution, a natural antibiotic that destroys some 650 different microorganisms."

According to natural health experts, there are other ways to use colloidal silver to treat ringworm.

Many people have found that simply spraying the affected area of the skin four or five times a day with 10 ppm colloidal silver and allowing it to air dry each time before putting clothes back over the affected area will knock out a ringworm infection in under a week.

Experts say the topical treatment with colloidal silver should be continued for seven days after the ringworm infection has disappeared, in order to help prevent recurrence.

People treating ringworm with colloidal silver generally also drink a tablespoon to an ounce of colloidal silver a day, depending upon body weight. (To learn how to establish a safe daily dosage of colloidal silver, get a copy of the Colloidal Silver Safe Dosage Report, available FREE by email).

For faster relief of larger ringworm infections, some people soak a gauze pad in 10 ppm colloidal silver, lay it over the affected area of the skin, and then put a baggy or Saran Wrap over it and tape it down, changing out the wet gauze pad twice a day.

An even simpler method is to purchase a good colloidal silver gel or colloidal silver cream, and apply it to the affected area of skin several times a day.  Some good commercial brands are:

• ASAP Ultimate Skin & Body Care Gel (contains 24 ppm colloidal silver)

• SilverPure Cream (with 35,000 ppm nanosilver)

• Curad Silver Solution Gel (55 ppm silver chloride)

The ASAP gel is generally available on Amazon.com or at SwansonVitamins.com.

The SilverPure Cream is significantly more expensive (because of the far higher silver content) but is considered by users to be unbeatable for truly stubborn topical issues.  It's available at SilverPure.com.

The Curad Silver Solution Gel is generally available in local pharmacies, and also on Amazon.com.

Stubborn Cases

Another method some people have found to be very effective for extremely stubborn cases of ringworm is to take a small empty shot glass and put a dollop of ASAP Ultimate Skin & Body Care Gel (i.e., a glob of it about half the size of a marble).

Then add four drops of a good, high-quality Tea Tree Oil (i.e., Melaleuca oil) and use a plastic spoon or other clean implement to mix it together really well in the shot glass.

The gel will turn from clear color to whitish color in the process of being mixed with the Tea Tree Oil.

A small amount of this mixture is then applied two or three times a day to the affected areas of the skin (being careful to stay away from the eyes, as Tea Tree Oil can be a bit caustic and will definitely burn the eyes).

Put a piece of Saran Wrap or other covering over the shot glass to keep your mixture fresh for repeated use throughout the day.

You can judge how long to keep applying it to the affected area simply by watching the skin condition clear up. When it's clear, stop using it. But continue to spray a good liquid colloidal silver product on the previously affected area for another seven days, to prevent recurrence.

Experts tell me they’ve never seen this mixture fail to work on stubborn ringworm and other fungal skin infections. But if you don't see significant clearing of the condition beginning within three days of using this mixture three times a day, then you'll have to switch to something else.

Another frequently mentioned home remedy is to disinfect the area around the site of the ringworm infection with vinegar. Then further wash the site with liquid colloidal silver. Then apply tea tree oil unmixed with any other substance.

(Again, experts say you need to be very careful about getting Tea Tree Oil too near the eyes.  And don’t touch the treated area with the hands and then touch near the eyes. If Tea Tree oil gets into the eyes, thoroughly rinsing the eyes with water will help, but many experts claim that rinsing the eyes with milk is even more effective, as the fats in the milk cling to the caustic oils in the Tea Tree oil and rinse it out of the eyes faster than water can.  Naturally, a visit to the local Urgent Care Center might be necessary if Tea Tree oil gets into the eyes and cannot be sufficiently rinsed out.)

The Experts Agree

Regardless of which method of treatment you use, the consensus of experts is that colloidal silver is extremely effective against ringworm.

Indeed, way back in 1920 Alfred B. Searle, author of Use of Colloids in Health and Disease wrote, “Colloidal silver has been used with marked success in treatment of ringworm of body, tinea versicolor, soft sores, pustular eczema of the scalp and pubes…”

And even earlier than that, in 1912, the British medical journal Lancet stated that colloidal silver had been used successfully to treat ringworm and other fungal skin conditions.

More recently, the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine stated in their Physician & Practitioner Administered Procedures and Therapies, “Among the conditions colloidal silver has controlled are severe burns, acne, boils, candida and yeast infections, chronic fatigue syndrome, digestive problems and colitis, ear and sinus infections, herpes, shingles, lupus, malaria, viral and fungal infections, blood parasites, rheumatoid arthritis, and ringworm.”

And in a clinical study titled, “Antifungal effect of silver nanoparticles on dermatophytes,” published in 2008 the prestigious Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology, researchers demonstrated that silver nanoparticles were even more effective than prescription antifungal drugs in the treatment of Trichophyton species of fungus – the most common cause of athlete’s foot, jock itch, ringworm, and hair and nail fungal infections in humans.
