New Study: Silver Nanoparticles Do NOT Harm Environment

silver nanoparticles are not harmful to the environment according to a new study
A new study published in a respected environmental journal has demonstrated what I've been saying for years.  Silver nanoparticles that make their way into the environment basically cause no harm whatsoever.

This comes as no surprise, of course, to anyone with common-sense.  After all, silver originates from the environment in the first place.

So when small amounts of antimicrobial silver leach from a consumer product and end up in the environment, it’s only being returned to its original source.  And it simply integrates harmlessly back into the very environment from which it came.

Mother nature has a way of dealing with it.

That’s because silver has a high affinity for other natural substances such as biological silica, salts, sulfur and other common soil and water minerals.  And as it bonds with these minerals in the soil or water, its powerful antimicrobial qualities are largely neutralized.  It become inert, just as it was before it was originally taken from the environment.

A brand new study published in the journal Environmental Science & Technology bears this out.  Here’s the inside story the radical, anti-silver environmentalists hope you’ll never see…

Hi, Steve Barwick here, for TheSilverEdge.com

For years now the anti-silver environmentalists have been screaming from the rooftops that antimicrobial silver nanoparticles need to be removed from consumer products and regulated into oblivion because they represent a dire “threat to the environment.”

Environmental groups like Friends of the Earth (FOE) have even called for the banning of all colloidal silver products, claiming they should be regulated as drugs.

Since 2008, massive online propaganda campaigns have been launched by the radical anti-silver environmentalists against the use of silver nanoparticles in consumer products (see “In Defense of Silver Nanoparticles” at this link).

And the anti-silver environmentalists have even gone so far as to claim that the use of antimicrobial silver in consumer products is “killing the planet” and contributing to global warming (see “Enviros Claim Silver Usage is Killing the Planet” at this link).

As a result, the EPA cracked down on the use of silver nanoparticles in consumer goods, to the point that most of them have been removed from the market (see “How Environmentalists Are Destroying the Market for Antimicrobial Silver” at this link).

This has prevented consumers from enjoying the antimicrobial benefits of nanosilver in hundreds of consumer products such as computer keyboards, cell phones, food containers, kitchen cutting boards and other items upon which high levels of pathogens are often found (see “Colloidal Silver: the Safe, Natural, Non-Toxic Home Disinfectant” at this link).

Sensationalistic Nonsense

Of course, when you thoughtfully examine the numerous articles and studies published by the anti-silver environmentalists, you’ll find they’re usually full of sensationalistic speculation and very short on facts or reliable independent data.

Their consistent use of empty, yet ominous-sounding weasel words like “unknown risk,” “potential harm,” or “grave concerns” is pervasive.

And their use of junk science (i.e., such as when they soaked tiny minnows in buckets full of silver nanoparticles at concentrations that would never be found in nature in order to produce a toxic reaction, or when they slathered silver nanoparticles all over tiny albino mice in order to produce a toxic reaction) has been so egregious, other scientists have even called them out for it and demanded they start practicing good science.

But these kinds of sensationalistic tactics are used by the anti-silver environmentalists because they simply don’t have the data to back up their shrill claims against silver.  It’s all rank speculation.

Worse yet, it appears many of these anti-silver environmentalist groups are funded, often to the tune of millions of dollars, by charitable foundations set up by Big Pharma (see “Big Drug Companies Fund Groups Behind Plot to Regulate Nanosilver” at this link).

Much Ado About Nothing

Of course, for all of the shrill and hyperbolic sky-is-falling warnings being promulgated by the anti-silver environmentalists since they first launched their anti-silver propaganda campaigns in 2008, it’s all turned out to be, in Shakespeare’s words, “much ado about nothing.”

For example, the environmentalists claimed nanosilver from consumer products would leach into rivers and streams and hurt fish and other wildlife.

But independent researchers found that to be largely untrue, with harm to fish or other aquatic life being minimal at best.  Instead, quite the opposite, silver appears to be quite helpful to fish and other aquatic wildlife.

What’s more, products like TetraMedica FungiStop (consisting of colloidal silver) have become popular with tropical fish hobbyists throughout Europe, who use it to save their expensive tropical fish collections from being devastated by bacterial, viral and fungal infections.

Finally, nanosilver was even demonstrated to boost the hatchability rate of trout eggs and the survival rate of the hatchlings in aquaculture environments.  It did so by inhibiting the growth rate of bacteria and fungi that often decimate eggs and hatchling populations.

Environmentalists then switched gears and claimed nanosilver, being found in the soil, would harm plants and reduce crop yields.

But in a study published in the March 2010 issue of the journal Mycobiology, researchers found that applying varying levels of silver nanoparticles to the roots of green onion plants completely eradicated fungal infections known to destroy the plants.

What’s more, the silver caused no harm whatsoever to beneficial soil microbes needed by the green onion plants for growth, nor was there any negative change in the soil chemistry or composition.

Finally, once the nanosilver-treated green onion plants were harvested, they were demonstrated to have grown larger and to weigh more than the non-treated green onion plants.

But none of that seems to make any difference to the radical, anti-silver environmentalists.

Once more, they simply switched gears and began to claim that once nanosilver enters an aquatic environment, such as rivers, lakes, streams, oceans or even wastewater treatment plants, it retain its toxicity to microbes, and thus poses a dire threat to the micro-ecology of all aquatic bodies.

But in July, 2012, in a study titled “Effect of light on toxicity of nanosilver to Tetrahymena pyriformis,” published in the journal of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, researchers found that nanosilver loses much of its toxicity in any aquatic environment, as soon as it’s exposed to light.

Indeed, after only 24 hours of exposure to light, nanosilver demonstrated 33.7% reduced toxicity in terms of its ability to inhibit the microorganism tested. This demonstrates that exposure to light alone reduces the toxicity of silver nanoparticles.

What’s more, the study authors point out that after 24 hours of exposure to light, the silver nanoparticles began to coagulate (i.e., bond together) into larger particle agglomerates.

This in turn further decreased their toxicity by dramatically reducing the available surface area (i.e., the number of individual silver particles become far fewer as more and more particles bond together into large “clumps”).

According to the researchers, as the silver nanoparticles agglomerated, they began to release silver ions at a much slower pace than usual, and released far fewer of the ions as well, which are critical to silver’s toxicity to microbes.  This reduced release of silver ions decreased toxicity of the nanosilver even further.

The researchers also found that the bulk agglomeration of the silver nanoparticles to minerals and other natural substances in the water caused some of the nanosilver to begin falling to the bottom of the aquatic environment, thus decreasing the number of silver nanoparticles in the water itself.

This is exactly what advocates of the use of nanosilver in consumer products have said all along, i.e., in real-world conditions, upon exposure to normal environmental realities, nanosilver rapidly begins to lose its “nano” characteristics along with much of its toxicity.

Finally, in April 2013, Swiss scientists working for the country’s National Research Programme threw environmentalists into fits with their study demonstrating the simple fact that barely any nanosilver from consumer products ends up in wastewater or other waterways, and what little does is “quickly transformed into less problematic substances on its way to the wastewater treatment plant.”

What’s more, of the small amount of nanosilver that actually makes it to wastewater treatment plants, 95% rapidly becomes bound in sewage sludge.

The bottom line is this:  Far from being a threat to the ecology, nanosilver simply goes back to being a harmless part of the very environment from which it was originally taken.

So one-by-one, the shrill claims of the radical anti-silver environmentalists have largely been decimated by independent studies as well as government-sponsored studies.

Brand New Study:  Nanosilver Doesn’t Harm Environment

Now, a brand new study, titled “The Impact of Silver Nanoparticles on the Composting of Municipal Solid Waste,” published in December 2013 in the journal Environmental Science & Technology, has put what I hope will be the final nail in the coffin of the radical, anti-silver environmentalists.

You see, in the U.S., municipal solid waste from wastewater treatment plants is often composted, turned into fertilizer, and then sold to farmers for use on their fields.

But the radical anti-silver environmentalists contend that when silver, which has leached into the environment from consumer products, ends up in municipal solid waste, it kills off the bacteria needed to compost the waste and convert it to fertilizer.

But in this latest study, researchers examined the effects of silver nanoparticles on “the composting of municipal solid waste” and found that “…functional performance was not significantly affected…” when silver nanoparticles were added.

In other words, when silver nanoparticles were added to the composting waste products, the physical quality of the compost was not significantly different from the compost made without the addition of silver nanoparticles.

This means the added silver nanoparticles did not destroy the bacteria needed to bio-degrade the waste material into fertilizer for farming.  Instead, the nanosilver simply integrated itself into the waste material and became largely inert as it bonded with other substances.

Indeed, the researchers found that the silver nanoparticles were fairly rapidly transformed to less toxic compounds at the soil surface.  And toxicity was further reduced as the silver continued to “complex with organic matter.”

Of course, this is what I’ve been saying for years:

Nanosilver simply integrates harmlessly back into the very environment from which it originally came by bonding to natural substances such as biological silica, salts, sulfur and other common soil and water minerals.

Once returned to the environment, the silver is no more “harmful to the environment” than it was the day it was first mined.

As the journal Science explained, regarding the new study, in their December 2013 issue:

“[Researchers] analyzed the impact that realistic low levels of silver nanoparticles had on the microbial communities responsible for biodegrading disposed organic matter during composting.

In compost treated with nanosilver or free silver ions, the species present in the bacterial communities differed from a control reactor without any added silver;

however, the physical properties of the aged compost and the leachate were nearly identical between treatments.”

In other words, when realistic levels of nanosilver were added to a batch of solid waste materials about to be composted, the bacterial species present during the composting process appeared to differ slightly from that of the batch of solid waste materials being composted with no nanosilver was added.

But the end result, which is to say, the physical quality of both batches of compost, were virtually identical.  So the added nanosilver had no detrimental impact on the microbial biodegradation of the waste materials.

According to the researchers, “The results of this study further suggest that at relatively low concentrations, the organically rich waste management systems’ functionality may not be influenced by the presence of AgNPs.”

In other words, in plain English, the presence of silver nanoparticles in solid waste material won’t stop microbes from composting the materials and turning it into fertilizer.

Over 120 Years, and No Harm Yet

As I pointed out in a previous article, “Nanosilver – Nothing New, and Not Harmful to the Environment in Over 120 Years of Use,” while nanosilver has been around for well over a century, and has been widely used in everything from consumer products to swimming pools, spas, hot tubs and even municipal water systems, there’s simply no historical basis for claims that it’s a “threat to the environment.”

As researcher Bernd Nowack pointed out several years ago in the journal Science, more than 90% of silver nanoparticles that make their way into sewage treatment plants, “remain bound in the sewage sludge in the form of silver sulfide, a substance which is extremely insoluble and orders of magnitude less toxic than free silver ions.”

Silver Is Ubiquitous in the Environment

The bottom line is that silver is naturally ubiquitous in the environment.

It’s in every river, lake or stream.  It’s in the oceans. It’s in every glass of water you drink.  It’s in the water in every shower or bath you take.  It’s in your food.  And silver is everywhere throughout the earth, as well, including the very soil your food crops are grown in.

It exists mostly as “trace silver” – literally millions of TONS of tiny microscopic and sub-microscopic silver particles which abound in the world’s oceans, lakes, rivers and streams, as well in the ground and even in the air your breath.

Earth even makes its own nanosilver, quite prolifically, by the way, whenever deposited mineral silver comes into contact with humic acid from dead, rotting leaves and other organic materials.

And in all of this time, since the very day you were born, all of this silver in the environment has never harmed you. So be sure take the shrill cries of the anti-silver environmentalists with a healthy grain of salt. And don’t fall for their sensationalistic nonsense.

The earth is not coming to a premature end due to the presence of silver nanoparticles, which in reality, have been here since the beginning of time.

Heck, for all we know, silver nanoparticles might be one of the few things preserving this old earth. But don’t mention that to the radical, anti-silver environmentalists, unless of course, you want to see their collective heads spin.

Learn to Make Your Own Colloidal Silver

Inevitably, when the subject of colloidal silver comes up, the radical, anti-silver environmentalists can’t help but scream that it should be regulated and banned, just as they want to regulate and ban nanosilver in consumer products, as well.

Colloidal silver is now one of the most popular nutritional supplements on the face of the earth, largely because of its ability to help kill infectious microorganisms and heal infections of all sorts, both internally and externally.  (For example, see “Colloidal Silver versus Cold and Flu Viruses, at this link.)

It can be found in virtually every well-stocked health food store in the U.S., Canada, Mexico. But it’s already been banned in Europe – it cannot be sold there as a dietary supplement (though some enterprising companies still sell it there as a “water disinfectant”).

And, of course, the radical, anti-silver environmentalists would love to see it banned, here in the U.S, too.

Thankfully, you don’t have to depend upon health food stores in order to obtain colloidal silver anytime you want it.  Indeed, high-quality colloidal silver can be made at home, quickly and easily, for just pennies per batch

In fact, making your own high-quality colloidal silver is extremely simple, particularly if you have a new Micro-Particle Colloidal Silver Generator from The Silver Edge.

One Big Fat Lie About Colloidal Silver I’d Love to See Abolished

Colloidal silver is one of my favorite nutritional supplements of all times.

In fact, I’ve used it successfully for over 20 years on infections and disease ranging from simple colds, infected boils, flu and sore throat (as well as for a stubborn, life-long dandruff condition), to more serious conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome, pneumonia, food poisoning and much more.

But there’s one big fat lie about colloidal silver that I’d love to see abolished for good.

Unfortunately, that lie is often promulgated by well-meaning colloidal silver advocates.  And because of it, people are being put at risk of ending up with argyria, the unsightly skin condition resulting from excessive colloidal silver usage.

Here’s what you need to know…

Hi, Steve Barwick here, for TheSilverEdge.com...

I've always stated that colloidal silver has one of the safest toxicological profiles of any nutritional supplement when used responsibly.

It’s also one of the most surprisingly effective of all nutritional supplements.

And by “effective,” I mean you can clearly experience its healing and infection-fighting properties for yourself.

There’s no wondering “Is it working?”

After all, infections often clear up almost like magic.  Health and well-being is often restored, even after years of poor health.

Tens of millions of colloidal silver users worldwide have demonstrated its safety and effectiveness.  And this fact alone literally decimates the shrill cries of the colloidal silver naysayers who claim it is “toxic” and “ineffective.”

According to Dr. Kent Holtorf, M.D., of the Holtorf Medical Group, in his clinical review titled “Safety and Efficacy of Oligodynamic Silver”:

“Hundreds of thousands of doses of oral colloidal silver and thousands of doses of intravenous colloidal silver are given every month in the United States.

This is usually done to treat acute and chronic infections including those associated with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and fibromyalgia (FM).

The effectiveness of the use of oral and intravenous colloidal silver in the treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia was presented at the 38th Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Environmental Medicine in October 2003.

The extremely low level of colloidal silver used at 23 parts per million (ppm) has been shown to have little or no potential for toxicity while having the significant potential for clinical benefit.”

Indeed, 110 years worth of historical experience demonstrates clearly that colloidal silver is not only safe when used at reasonable and responsible dosage levels, but its healing benefits are often absolutely astonishing

For example, at the Colloidal Silver Success Stories website, you’ll find literally hundreds upon hundreds of in-depth testimonials from experienced colloidal silver users who have documented their personal colloidal silver success stories in great detail.

The Big Lie

However, some people mistakenly believe that as long as colloidal silver is "properly made," it cannot cause any harm whatsoever, regardless of how much you ingest each day

In other words, they believe “properly made” colloidal silver cannot cause any harm to the human body even when ingested in large, daily quantities, for months or even years on end.

In the course of doing research for my book, The Ultimate Colloidal Silver Manual, I’ve seen this spurious idea being promulgated on YouTube videos…in articles on natural health blogs…and on websites selling colloidal silver.

And I've personally heard it being championed by enthusiastic (but ill-informed) colloidal silver users themselves.

Even some so-called colloidal silver “experts” seem to believe it.

Unfortunately, the idea that you can drink as much colloidal silver as you want as long as it’s “properly made” is blatantly untrue – in fact, it’s a great big lie.

Like any other natural substance on the face of the earth, if you use colloidal silver abusively, by overdosing yourself on it, on a regular basis, for long periods of time, you're going to experience problems no matter how well-made your colloidal silver is.

That's just plain, common sense.

And it’s true whether you’re using electrically generated colloidal silver, or other forms of colloidal silver such as mild silver protein, nanoparticle silver, silver chloride, silver oxide, silver citrate or any other colloidal silver supplement on the face of the earth.

As I've repeatedly pointed out over the years, there’s no such thing as a natural supplement you can take at excessively large dosages for long periods of time without experiencing harm.

For example:

·       The mineral iron, if used in excess on a regular daily basis, will cause your body’s tissues and organs to accumulate iron over time, causing untold damage to the body, including heart disease and even dementia.

·       The mineral selenium, if used in excess over long periods of time, will cause nervous system damage, and ultimately convulsions and even death.

·       Similarly, the mineral calcium, if used in excess over long periods of time, will cause calcification of soft tissue within the body, cellular toxicity and even heart disease.

·       Excessive use of vitamin A over long periods of time can cause liver damage, anemia and other problems.

I could go on and on, through each and every vitamin, mineral and nutritional supplement on the market, and each and every substance we use in our daily lives such as sugar and salt, both of which can ultimately cause disease and death if used in excess for long periods of time.

But I think you get the picture.

If you take too much of any substance – whether natural or synthetic, and no matter how benign – and you continue to overdose yourself on it, there will ultimately be repercussions to your health and well-being.

Colloidal silver is no different.

There’s over 110 years worth of historical data on colloidal silver usage, demonstrating that it’s perfectly safe to use in small daily amounts, and that it’s astonishingly effective against infections and related diseases of all sorts.

But that very same historical data demonstrates that when people start taking colloidal silver irresponsibly – which is to say, in overly-large daily dosages – and they continue to do so for long periods of time, they end up overwhelming their body's very efficient mechanism for eliminating metallic minerals.

Argyria

As a result, the body begins storing the excess silver in the tissues and organs, eventually pushing it out to the skin where it "tarnishes" (i.e., oxidizes) under exposure to sunlight.

This oxidation of silver particles in the skin results in skin-staining – i.e., the skin turns gray or blue from the inside out, in a process similar to making a photographic negative.

That unsightly skin condition is known in the medical literature as argyria.  It’s a strictly cosmetic skin condition that most authorities – including the EPA – agree causes no additional harm to the human body.

Unfortunately, it’s a permanent skin condition, except in very mild cases in which a special form of laser tattoo removal can be used to remove the gray or blue pigmentation from the skin.  (See “Colloidal Silver:  Harmful to the Human Body?” at this link.)

It’s All About the Dosage!

The point is this:  No matter how well-made your colloidal silver is, if you’re overdosing yourself on it daily, for months or years on end, you’re sooner or later going to end up with the potential for argyric skin.

Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

You’ll see people on the internet saying things like “I’ve been drinking eight ounces of colloidal silver a day for two years, and I’m not blue yet.”  Well, give it another two years, and you will be.

Put simply, the human body becomes a repository for silver when it’s ingested in excessive quantities over long periods of time.

The silver accumulates slowly and gradually in the body when so much of it is ingested that the normal processes of elimination (i.e., liver, kidneys and sweat) become overwhelmed.  And as it accumulates little by little, it eventually migrates out to the skin.

The body doesn't care if it’s poorly-made colloidal silver, or properly-made colloidal silver.

It doesn't care if it’s electrically-generated colloidal silver, or chemically-produced colloidal silver such as nanoparticle silver.

And it doesn't care if it’s silver compounds such as silver nitrate, silver chloride, silver arsphenamine or others.

If you ingest too much silver of any kind, regularly, for long periods of time, you risk argyria.  Period.  Dot.  Exclamation point.

But used within reasonable amounts – usually between a teaspoonful and an ounce a day, depending upon body weight – it appears to be perfectly safe, based upon over 110 years worth of historical colloidal silver usage by literally tens of millions of people worldwide.

That’s because the human body has a built-in mechanism for transporting and eliminating silver from the human body.

As the Dartmouth University Toxic Metals Research Program has concluded, silver is a normal part of the human diet, and the body is able to excrete it effectively under normal circumstances:

"Trace amounts of silver are in the bodies of all humans and animals. We normally take in between 70 and 88 micrograms of silver a day, half of that amount from our diet.

Humans have evolved with efficient methods of dealing with that intake, however. Over 99 percent is readily excreted from the body.

Is silver harmful to humans? Unlike other metals such as lead and mercury, silver is not toxic to humans and is not known to cause cancer, reproductive or neurological damage, or other chronic adverse effects."

People such as myself have taken colloidal silver in small daily amounts for over 20 years, with no negative effects whatsoever, and only positive health benefits.

Indeed, except in rare cases in which people are allergic to silver, or have severe deficiencies of the antioxidant substances used by the human body to effectively process silver (such as Vitamin E, selenium and glutathione or cysteine), using colloidal silver in small daily dosages appears to be as safe as any nutritional supplement you can think of.

Successful Uses for Colloidal Silver

So exactly how is colloidal silver used?  Here’s a short list of uses:

·       Colloidal silver has been used successfully to kill disease-causing viruses, pathogenic fungi and yeast, and antibiotic-resistant bacteria (including MRSA).

·       It even kills deadly microbes like E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans, Salmonella typhimurium, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiela pneumonia

·       It helps cure cold and flu viruses with ease.

·       What’s more, tooth and gum infections seem to be no match for colloidal silver, as well.

·       Colloidal silver is even being studied by researchers as a safe, natural mouthwash.

·       Plus, it’s widely used as a safe, natural and non-toxic germ-busting household disinfectant.
·       Colloidal silver even has 12 very unusual uses, including its ability to stop termite infestations, eliminate pet odors in carpets, get rid of aphids from rose bushes, keeping a bouquet of flowers fresh longer, and much more.

The bottom line is that the more you look into colloidal silver usage, the more astonished you’ll become.  And the more you’ll want to learn.

Expert Says Big Pharma Fakes Their Drug Studies

learn more about colloidal silver at www.thesilveredge.com
The big drug companies have been fudging and faking their data for decades, according to the head of the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, one of the world’s leading experts on clinical studies.

So the whole concept of “evidence-based medicine” and “science-based medicine” is largely a lie.  And because of that, many of the drugs Big Pharma has managed to get approved by the FDA are suspect.

But antimicrobial silver has been used successfully for over 2,000 years, and modern-day products like electrically generated colloidal silver have been used successfully against infections and related diseases for over 110 years.

So the next time someone challenges you over colloidal silver, calling it “quackery” and demanding to know “Where’s all of the peer-reviewed clinical studies?” here’s what you tell them…

Hi, Steve Barwick here, for TheSilverEdge.com

Here’s a fascinating interview with Dr. Peter Gotzsche of the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, perhaps the world's leading expert on clinical studies of pharmaceutical drugs.

He likens Big Pharma to the Mafia, and explains that their adherence to total secrecy regarding clinical study details is because their "business model hinges on publishing flawed research".

In other words, Big Pharma depends upon phony research in order to push more and more drugs onto the general public.

The public is lead to believe these clinical studies are actually "peer-reviewed" and constitute "evidence-based medicine." But the reality is that they are in all too many cases based either on flawed data, fudged data, cherry-picked data or are even totally faked.

According to Dr. Gotzsche:

"The public needs to know the extent to which they are being deceived in the current system, e.g. few people know that prescription drugs are the third major killer behind heart disease and cancer.  If drug testing and drug regulation were effective, this wouldn’t happen."

Yes, that’s what I’ve been saying for years.
Big Pharma’s drug-testing is always suspect, because the big drug companies completely control it.  And they maintain airtight secrecy over it.

And in all too many cases, the regulatory agencies like the FDA merely review the research and accept the data without question, and then rubber stamp it “approved.”

So you have FDA-approved drugs now constituting the third leading cause of death behind heart disease and cancer, which can only lead to the conclusion that drug regulation itself, is little more than a farce.

Dr. Gotzsche says the drug companies “Don’t sell drugs, they sell lies about drugs.”

And he documents in his new book, “Deadly Medicines and Organized Crime:  How Big Pharma Has Corrupted Health Care,” the simple fact that “Organised crime [is] the business model of big pharma.”

The Colloidal Silver Challenge

So, the next time someone challenges you over colloidal silver by saying "Where's all of the peer-reviewed clinical studies?" show them this article and ask them, bluntly:

"You mean like all of those the 'peer-reviewed' clinical studies used by Big Pharma to justify the sale of billions of dollars worth of prescription drugs that are now the world’s third leading cause of death in men, women and children, behind heart disease and cancer?"

The bottom line is that antimicrobial silver has worked wonders against infections and related diseases for thousands of years (see History of the Medical Use of Silver).

And to my knowledge, there’s never been a death from oral or topical colloidal silver usage in its entire 110 year history, in spite of the fact that tens of millions of people worldwide now use it.

As Dr. Kent Holtorf, M.D., of the Holtorf Medical Group has stated:

“Silver compounds have been used as medicine since the late 1800’s and have been used as a treatment against infections by hundreds of thousands of individuals in the United States.

Silver is a natural mineral in the same class as zinc, chromium, cobalt, copper, iron, magnesium, molybdenum, vanadium and zince which are important for health maintenance.

Humans naturally ingest from 22 to 300 mcg of silver per day from natural sources in food and water

…There is evidence that silver is a natural critical component of our immune system and that low tissue levels associated with dietary deficiency may result in a relatively weakened immune system, making one more prone to infection.

The modern versions of colloidal silver (oligodynamic silver) are shown to have little or no toxicity.”

And according to the Dartmouth University Toxic Metals Research Program:

"Trace amounts of silver are in the bodies of all humans and animals. We normally take in between 70 and 88 micrograms of silver a day, half of that amount from our diet.

Humans have evolved with efficient methods of dealing with that intake, however. Over 99 percent is readily excreted from the body.

Is silver harmful to humans?

Unlike other metals such as lead and mercury, silver is not toxic to humans and is not known to cause cancer, reproductive or neurological damage, or other chronic adverse effects."

Hundreds of Clinical Studies on Colloidal Silver

What’s more, there are indeed literally hundreds of clinical studies on the astonishing effectiveness of colloidal silver and other forms of antimicrobial silver, as well.

For example, you can find nearly 100 clinical studies and research papers on colloidal silver and other forms of antimicrobial silver at the link in this sentence.

So don’t let the skeptics and naysayers tell you there are no clinical studies.  That’s a great big fat lie they’re hoping you’ll buy into without looking any further.

Many medical practitioners I’ve spoken with over the past 20 years actually believed this lie, until I’ve shown them the actual breadth and depth of clinical studies that have been conducted on colloidal silver and published in peer-reviewed journals.

What happens when they see all of these clinical studies on the antimicrobial qualities of silver (such as those at the link three paragraphs above)?

Often, their outlook is changed forever.  As Oliver Wendell Homes, Jr. once stated, “A mind that is stretched by new ideas can never go back to its old dimensions.”

Real-Life Colloidal Silver Results

Nevertheless, as we’ve seen, in many cases clinical studies don't mean diddly-squat, because frankly, they can be faked.

What really matters are REAL-LIFE RESULTS.

So check out some of the real-life colloidal silver success stories at this link, and learn for yourself how people just like you are using colloidal silver to cure infections of all sorts, as well as serious illness and disease.

(The FDA requires me to tell you at this point that testimonials and anecdotal accounts do not constitute proof of efficacy.  I happen to agree.  But flawed, faked and rubber-stamped drug studies don’t constitute proof of efficacy, either.  And so, personally, I choose to put more trust in the words of experienced and responsible colloidal silver users than in the words of the big drug companies and their biased shills who brand colloidal silver usage as “quackery”.)

The bottom line is that those who use dietary colloidal silver KNOW it’s astonishingly effective against infection and disease in an astonishing number of cases.  It’s not perfect.  Nothing is.  But it works with amazing consistency for those who use it responsibly.

But those who shill for Big Pharma completely ignore the 2,000 year history behind the usage of antimicrobial silver, as well as the 110-plus year history behind the use of electrically generated colloidal silver.  And they ignore the literally thousands upon thousands of positive anecdotal accounts that keep piling up, as well.

And to denigrate the historical and anecdotal data, they ask loaded questions like "Where's the peer-reviewed studies?"

But turn it around on them.  Ask them why prescription drugs, with all of the supposed "peer-reviewed studies" behind them, and all of the supposedly stringent government regulation, are now the third leading cause of death in the world, behind heart disease and cancer.

And then ask them why there’s never been a death from oral or topical dietary use of colloidal silver usage in its entire 110 year history, in spite of the fact that tens of millions of people worldwide have been using it for decades.

Finally, ask them why world-recognized clinical research experts like Dr. Gotzsche say people would likely be better off, and would likely enjoy a higher quality of life, if they'd work with their doctors to get off of most of their drugs and use diet, nutrition and exercise to stay well, instead.

Where’s the Real Quackery?

The so-called "skeptics" groups and "quackbusters" love to label colloidal silver (as well as vitamins, herbs and other nutritional supplements) as "quackery."

And of course, they claim that Big Pharma’s drugs represent “science-based” or “evidence-based” medicine.  But what happens when the science is flawed and the evidence is manipulated or outright faked?

The truth of the matter is this, according to experts like Dr. Gotzsche of the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews:  Big Pharma’s "evidence-based medicine" model is all too often what turns out to be based on quackery.  Or worse yet, out-and-out Mafia-like fraud.

So always turn the table on the colloidal silver skeptics and naysayers, and press them to the wall with the facts.  And they'll scurry back into their little dark holes.
