Is Argyria a Side Effect of Colloidal Silver Usage?

Is Argyria a Side Effect of Colloidal Silver Usage?

Yes, argyria (skin greying) is a very real side effect of excessive usage of colloidal silver. And many people will use that fact to try to scare you away from using colloidal silver to cure infections or boost immunity.

But you've got to realize that there is no substance on earth that does not have very real side effects when used in excess. For example:

Diabetes, pancreatitis and heart disease are very real side effects of excessive usage of sugar.

Cirrhosis of the liver and heart failure are very real side effects of the excessive usage of iron supplements.

Kidney malfunction, calcification of soft tissue within the body, cellular toxicity and impaired immune function are very real side effects of excess usage of calcium.

Muscle pain, fatigue, irritability, depression, schizophrenia, fever, liver damage and anemia are very real side effects of the excessive usage of Vitamin A.

What's more, DEATH is a very real side effect of the excessive usage of...water (it's called "drowning").

None of those side effects justify being afraid to use the substances mentioned. Why? Because the key phrase involved in each one is "excessive use." When used in moderation, these substances are not only benign, but helpful. When used in excess, they can cause serious health consequences.

It is exactly the same with colloidal silver. If you use it in moderation it is completely harmless, and in fact extremely beneficial for boosting immunity and warding off infections of all sorts. It even helps the body heal from chronic degenerative diseases such as lupus, MS, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, Lyme disease and a host of others that often are caused by underlying hidden infections. But if used in excess daily over long periods of time, the result can be argyria, or skin-staining. It is a harmless, but cosmetically unappealing condition resulting from silver particles being pushed to the skin (the body's third major organ of elimination) at which point they oxidize (or tarnish)from exposure to the sun.

Out of the estimated 10 million users of colloidal silver throughout North America, only a very small handful have been naive, ignorant or ill-informed enough to take such excessive quantities over such long periods of time to result in skin-staining. It is ridiculous to blame the substance for the misuse by the person. That's kinda like saying water is terrible for you because several thousand people a year die in it due to drowning.

Also, if you want to learn even more about the safe usage of colloidal silver, a company called Life & Health Research Group has recently placed their one-hour, studio-quality Colloidal Silver Secrets video on sale for only twenty bucks. If features Steve Barwick, author of The Ultimate Colloidal Silver Manual, being interviewed relentlessly by television personality Kristyn Burtt on just about every aspect of colloidal silver usage you can imagine. have a pt here in the hospital and her husband who are as blue as blueberries from just a few doses of colloidal silver.. it is misleading and dangerous to say it is harmless and only small amounts will cause argyria.

Thanks for your comment, Jeaucamon.

But how do you know they only did "a few doses" of colloidal silver?

Maybe they're embarrased to say how much they ingested.

I'm just curious because I've been taking colloidal silver off and on for over 15 years now, with no problem. So has my wife. And many of my friends and family. Plus I have thousands of readers who are regular users and have been for years.

So if I had to judge based on facts on the grounds, I'd have to say your pt and her husband likely took lots of silver -- far more than common sense would dictate.

Every health food store in America sells colloidal silver. There are an estimated 10 million users in North America alone. It makes me wonder, if even small amounts can cause argyria as you say, then where are all of the blue people? And why hasn't the FDA banned this substance?

The truth is, to date, what the medical bureaucrats have found is that excessive consumptiom appears to be the problem with those who have become argyric.

I'm not saying it's impossible to become argyric from use of small amounts. Some people die from eating a single peanut (due to allergies) while others with the same allergy simply get a rash, and have to eat handfuls of the nuts to get that. So biological individuality does play a role.

But overall, my statements are true. It takes excessivily heavy usage of colloidal silver, over long periods of time, to become argyric.

I have used collidal silver occassionally over the past 10-11 years and have a definite 'dark graying' on the lower half of my face and neck that I believe is from using collidal silver nose sprays (prescribed) as well as collidal silver orally and I have at times used it on my face..I believe every person's system handles or breaks down drugs/medicines differently, so it can have different effects on each of us. When people see me they either laugh or look shocked, it almost appears that I have a shadow beard because of the darkness of my facial skin, everywhere else I have fair skin. Every doctor I see has no answers or solutions to offer.

Brenda, thanks for your comment. You might want to consider trying to get in touch with Dr. Allison Vidimos, of the Cleveland Clinic. From what I understand, she has developed a laser technique for removing argyric deposits under the skin, and has had moderate to good success with this. Every case is different, but she may be able to help you out. Here's a link for contact information, or google "Dr. Allison Vidimos + Cleveland Clinic":

Good luck to you. And please let us know if this works out for you.

Steve,

Hi and thanks for the great work!

I know you wrote back in Jan 2010 about the EU ruling and that its now illegal to sell CS in the EU, but if that is true why are so many websites, including amazon.co.uk still selling it 6 months later?

i'd appreciate your insights into this,

I'm considering setting up my own little CS distribution business, and wondering if this ruling may come into effect or not...

thanks,

gerry

Hi Gerry,

If you'll check out Part III of the series of articles on the EU colloidal silver ban titled "An Exclusive Interview with Anders Sultan, Sweden’s Largest Colloidal Silver Manufacturer" (see this link: http://colloidalsilversecrets.blogspot.com/2010/01/colloidal-silver-banned-in-europe-part_20.html) you'll see where I report that many colloidal silver vendors are using a loophole to get around the EU colloidal silver ban.

Instead of labeling their product as a nutritional supplement, these vendors are instead labeling it as a water purification product, which is still perfectly legal in the EU.

Other EU vendors are simply still unaware of the ban, as it was not highly publicized. Some are flat-out defying the ban. (And I say more power to them.)

The ANH (Alliance for Natural Health) is looking to sue the EU commission over the ban (keep in mind the ban covers many more supplement ingredients than just silver). So, many of the vendors still selling colloidal silver (and other banned ingredients) are in essence waiting to see how the EU commission acts in terms of enforcement, and what kind of lawsuits are filed against the commission in response to the enforcement.

It's an exciting time and I urge you to step up to the plate and join the ANH and support their efforts to protect health freedoms.

And again, read the afore-mentioned third in the series of articles on the EU ban, and it will explain more about how EU supplement vendors are simply re-classifying the silver they sell as a "water purification" ingredient rather than a "nutritional supplement" ingredient.

There is also an email address where you can get in touch with Anders Sultan, one of the larger European colloidal silver manufacturers, and perhaps ask him some questions if you are planning on doing business in the EU.
