Tinnitus, which is also known
colloquially as “ringing in the ears,” can be an annoying affliction, to say
the least.
Experts claim it affects as many as one
in every five people, worldwide, making it one of the most common of all
afflictions.
But researchers still argue over the
cause, with some saying it’s brought on by exposure to loud noises or loud
music, and others claiming it can be brought on by ear infections, inflammation
in the ears, or even heart disease, brain tumors, head injury or excess ear wax
buildup.
What’s widely agreed upon, however, is
the fact that there are no known effective medications for the problem.
Or, are there? Interestingly enough, some people claim that
using small amounts of colloidal silver on a regular daily basis has rid them
of the pesky ringing in their ears.
Here’s what we know so far…
Hi, Steve
Barwick here, for The Silver Edge…
In his
bestselling book, The pH Miracle: Balance
Your Diet, Reclaim Your Health, Dr. Robert O. Young, PhD says on page 178:
"Eye
or ear problems, including cataracts, glaucoma, redness, blurred vision, poor
eyesight, ringing in the ears,
earaches, soreness or swelling of the ears, eardrum damage, hardness of
hearing, and (in rare cases) loss of hearing: Use 1 drop of colloidal silver
topically (directly in the eye or ear) 3 times a day."
I don't have
any personal experience whatsoever using colloidal silver for tinnitus. But I noticed the following testimonial on
the Colloidal Silver Success Stories page of TheSilverEdge.com web site:
"I have given the colloidal silver water to a
friend who suffers from extreme tinnitus. The tinnitus disappears after
drinking an ounce a day for about a week.
When the colloidal silver water is
stopped the tinnitus returns gradually after about a week.
This has been tried about 4 times and
each time the tinnitus stops and stays away as long as the colloidal silver is
consumed daily and returns when the silver is no longer consumed.”

It appears
this individual did not use colloidal
silver directly in the ears as per Dr. Young’s suggestion in his book, but instead,
drank one ounce of colloidal silver every day.
Another brief
but interesting testimonial tells quite a similar story:
“While I took my daily
ounce of 10 ppm colloidal silver, my arthritis pain disappeared and also
the ringing in my ears.
I didn’t realize the ringing had stopped until I quit using the colloidal silver, and the ringing in my ears returned until I re-started my daily dose.”

-- David F.
Testimonials
like these make me wonder if relief of tinnitus would have been more-or-less permanent had the colloidal silver been
used in the ears, sparingly, as per Dr. Young’s suggestion above, for a short
period of time, such as for five days to a week.
Here’s another interesting testimonial from a female tinnitus sufferer, which I found on the always helpful EarthClinic.com website:
Here’s another interesting testimonial from a female tinnitus sufferer, which I found on the always helpful EarthClinic.com website:
“In the evening, before bed, with a
rubber ear syringe, I gently squirted Colloidal silver in one ear, laid on the
other side for 5 minutes, then absorbed the colloidal silver with a clean wash
cloth as it drained out when I sat up.
Then I did the same to the other ear.
The next morning, I used the same treatment with the colloidal silver but left it
in each ear for approximately 30 minutes per ear. This has reduced the loud
ringing/tinnitus approximately 90%.”
Again, I have
no personal experience using colloidal silver in this manner for tinnitus. And I’m not sure leaving that much colloidal
silver in the ear for 30 minutes is such a wise idea, because of the potential
for silver particles to accumulate in the ear.
But I can’t argue with the woman’s success in reducing her tinnitus by
90%.
If it were
me, however, I’d probably take a slower approach and try the one-drop-three
–times-per-day technique recommended by Dr. Young in his book (see beginning of
article), for maybe a week or so to see if it helps.
Here’s
another very interesting testimonial I found online, on the Topix Lyme Disease
forum, from a gentleman who began using colloidal silver as a nutritional
adjunct for his Lyme disease infection.
He found that as a pleasant side effect, his tinnitus began getting
better:
“I was diagnosed with Lyme almost 4
months ago. I have been using colloidal silver along with antibiotics. I
believe the colloidal silver is more powerful than any antibiotic there is and
I am slowly building up my daily doses. I have many problems from the Lyme but
my tinnitus has gotten better and my hearing seems to be coming back to almost
100%.”
Here’s
another interesting testimonial, this one from the well-known CureZone.com
website:
“I had a severe infection that cause
my ear ringing to get horrible -- and it lasted about three weeks -- I thought
I'd go nutsy. It was awful.
Colloidal Silver helped. I ingested it and put it directly in my ears (was a self cure; I don't know if any doctor would recommend it), and it worked! It got rid of the terrible ringing that came with the infection.”

Colloidal
silver used directly in the ears is also recommended, briefly, by readers on
the What Doctor’s Don’t Tell You website:
“Finally, there was the gentleman last time who
happened to mention, in passing, that he had tinnitus. Try some colloidal
silver in the ear, and check your thyroid levels, says one reader, while
another suggests infra-red treatment.”
And the
SurvivalistBoards.com website has another interesting testimonial:
“After doing my own research I made my own
colloidal silver. The solution tested
out to be in the range of 9 ppm. I drank
an ounce of my colloidal silver water daily for a week and used it on some cuts
and scrapes...I also used it in my ears, tinnitus gone!”
Finally, in
the best-selling book, Prescription for
Nutritional Healing, by Phyllis A.
Balch, in the chapter on Hearing Loss, next to the section on tinnitus and it’s
relation to hearing loss, one of the recommended nutritional supplements is
colloidal silver. Her brief mention
simply states, “Can be used as ear drops
for infection or inflammation.”
Why Would Colloidal Silver Help?
I’m
conjecturing here, but my guess would be that if one’s tinnitus is caused by either infection or inflammation,
colloidal silver *might* be beneficial, used either orally at the adult dosage
of an ounce a day, or directly in the ear as per Dr. Young’s suggestion, at the
rate of one-drop-three-times-per-day, for a week or so.
That’s
because, of course, silver is known to be highly antimicrobial, as well as
having anti-inflammatory properties. So
if there’s an ear infection, the colloidal silver can kill the microbes behind
it. Or if there’s an inflammation problem,
silver might reduce the inflammation enough to stop the ringing.
If the tinnitus is not caused by infection or inflammation, however, but instead by heart disease, brain tumor, head injury, loud noise, ear wax buildup or other issues, colloidal silver likely would be of no help at all.

I have to
re-emphasize, all of that is pure conjecture on my part. There have been, to the best of my knowledge,
no clinical studies whatsoever on the
topic of using colloidal silver to stop tinnitus.
But based on
the above anecdotal reports, perhaps simply ingesting a small amount of
colloidal silver daily would help. Or, a
person might even want to combine that with Dr. Young’s suggestion, and try it
for a week or so.
If you suffer
from tinnitus, and choose to try either the oral dosage method described in the
testimonials above, or Dr. Young’s recommended method of putting one drop of
colloidal silver into the ears each day, please write and let me know your
results after a few weeks trial.
You can post your
experience to the Colloidal Silver Secrets Community on Facebook, and I’ll see it there.
More Info on Using
Colloidal Silver in the Ears
If you’d like
more information on using colloidal silver in the ears, here are two helpful resources:
- At the following link, you’ll find an article by natural health journalist Angela Kaelin titled “Colloidal Silver: Healing Ear Infections the Safe, Easy Way.
- And there’s a short, instructive video at the following link titled “Cure an Earache With Colloidal Silver.”
- I'd be remiss if I didn’t mention there's a nutritional supplement called Vinpocetine, which people use for memory problems, but which many people swear has helped get rid of their tinnitus.
Vinpocetine
works by bringing added blood flow to the brain (and ears) and helping cells
generate cellular energy by producing adenosine triphosphate (ATP). You can read more about this fascinating
supplement at the link in the paragraph directly above.
Our good
friend, natural health journalist Tony Isaacs says B-vitamins – particularly
B-12 -- can also be helpful against tinnitus, writing:
“B vitamins help reduce and prevent
inflammation. Vitamin B12 is considered to be essential for combating tinnitus
because it is essential for the formation of the myelin sheaths that surround
and protect nerve fibers. B12 deficiency can make nerves more susceptible to
inflammatory damage.”

to Make Your Own
Colloidal
Silver for Pennies…
Colloidal silver can be
purchased at just about any local health food store, or through a number of
online sources including Amazon.com.
However, it’s quite
literally one of the most expensive and heavily marked-up natural supplements
in existence.
Health food store owners,
for example, often charge as much as $20-$30 for a tiny four-ounce bottle. Yet the cost to manufacture four ounces of
colloidal silver is about 12 cents. Yes,
I said twelve cents.
Thankfully, there’s no
need to pay such exorbitant prices for colloidal silver, when you can make your
own, quickly and easily, in the comfort and privacy of your own home, for about 36 cents a quart.
Yes, you can make it yourself for its actual cost, and altogether skip the high mark-ups at health food stores!
