Silver Kill the Fungus that Causes Dandruff: 2 New Studies

Click here to learn to make colloidal silver...
Got dandruff?  Well, it’s likely you won’t anymore if you start working a little bit of colloidal silver into your scalp each day.

According to the latest clinical research silver works wonders against the fungal pathogen that causes dandruff – even working better than prescription anti-fungal dandruff drugs.

Here’s the straight scoop on the two latest studies demonstrating the anti-dandruff benefits of silver nanoparticles…

Hi, Steve Barwick here, for The Silver Edge…

Last year I wrote an article titled “Colloidal Silver Helps Heal Stubborn Dandruff Problems,” in which I documented through anecdotal reports from readers that colloidal silver is astonishingly effective against dandruff, which is caused by a fungal pathogen infestation of the scalp.

I also documented a number of clinical studies demonstrating silver’s proven anti-fungal prowess.  But what I couldn’t find at the time was a clinical study proving silver to be an effective anti-dandruff treatment.

In fact, I stated at the time, “Silver’s powerful antifungal properties have not only been known for decades but have repeatedly been verified by medical science. So frankly, it’s quite astonishing that colloidal silver has never been investigated as a remedy for dandruff.”

But now, with the latest clinical research, all of that’s changed, as you’re about to learn.  Not one, but two new clinical studies have demonstrated silver’s powerful anti-dandruff qualities.  And you can bet in due time some big drug company will be coming out with a new dandruff shampoo with silver as the active anti-fungal, anti-dandruff ingredient.

The Latest Research:
Silver Stops Dandruff Better Than Drugs

In a relatively new clinical study, titled “Size- and Shape-dependent Clinical and Mycological Efficacy of Silver Nanoparticles on Dandruff,” published in the International Journal of Nanomedicine in June, 2015, researchers from India found that silver nanoparticles of various shapes and sizes were effective against the Malassezia furfur fungus, which causes dandruff.

According to the researchers:

“The present work outlines a detailed analysis of the treatment of scalp infection using silver nanomaterials (Ag NMs), and focuses on biocidal activity owing to manipulation of size, shape, and structure…

…silver nanomaterials demonstrated enhanced biocidal tendencies compared to market available drugs, itracanozole and ketoconazole, showing greater zones of inhibition.”

In other words, the tiny, 20 nm silver nanoparticles worked even better against the dandruff fungus than prescription anti-fungal dandruff drugs such as itracanozole and ketoconazole.

Indeed, the researchers wrote that the silver nanoparticles were “found to be superior to tested drugs.”

The researchers even tested the silver nanoparticles in vivo, using the rat model.  They wrote:

“An in vivo model for M. furfur infection was generated by passing fungi subcutaneously in rats’ skin. Again, 20 nm particles showed best normalization of skin after 10 days on regular dosing.”

In other words, the researchers induced an infection with the skin fungi that causes dandruff in the skin of the mice.  They then treated the skin of the mice with silver.  And the dandruff-causing fungal infection of the skin was cured after only 10 days of silver use.  The researchers also found that the use of the silver nanoparticles caused no damage to the skin, whatsoever.  They wrote:

“The results of skin irritation test indicate that Ag NPs do not produce any dermatological reaction and were well tolerated by rats showing no drastic visual flakes formation and inflammation.”

Instead, the researchers found that the silver nanoparticle treatment brought about significant tissue repair.  They wrote:

“Biochemical analysis performed by checking antioxidant enzymatic activities indicated tissue repair and normalization of enzymes and protein concentration by Ag NPs.”

Finally, the researchers concluded:

“Small-sized spherical Ag NPs can be used as an important cost-effective fungistatic agent in formulations for treating scalp problems, since they can be produced in larger quantities and very small amount is required for the desired effect.”

As I stated earlier, be on the watch for a new anti-fungal shampoo with silver nanoparticles as its active ingredient.  It’s only a matter of time before the big over-the-counter medical corporations that produce other dandruff shampoos pick up on this research, if they haven’t already.  In fact, the next study (below) indicates they already have…

Another New Silver/Dandruff Study

Another similar recent clinical study is titled “Anti-Malassezia furfur Activity of Natural Surfactant Mediated In-Situ Silver Nanoparticles for a Better Antidandruff Shampoo Formulation,” published in January 2016 in the chemical sciences journal RSC Advances.

In this study, researchers from the National Institute of Technology and the Centre for Converging Technologies in India pointed out that the dandruff-causing fungus Malassezia furfur was becoming resistant to common anti-dandruff drugs and medications.  They wrote, “…in many cases dandruff causing fungi, Malassezia furfur develops resistance towards commonly used antidandruff drugs, as a result, it necessary to develop a new class of novel antidandruff shampoo…”

So the researchers tested silver nanoparticles and found a significant anti-fungal effect “in aqueous media against M. furfur.”  In other words, they tested the silver in a liquid media similar to shampoo.  And they concluded that the silver nanoparticles not only remained stable in the liquid media they used, but protected the liquid media from microbial contamination and showed “potential as an active antidandruff simple shampoo formulation.”

It’s abundantly clear from the study title that developing a “better antidandruff shampoo formulation” is the goal of the researchers.  Indeed, whenever you see clinical studies like this being released one behind the other, you can rest assured someone, somewhere, is already working on the development of a new silver-based commercial product.

That’s why I feel confident in predicting there will soon be new anti-dandruff shampoos introduced to the market – whether prescription, or over-the-counter I do not know – but based on silver nanoparticles as the active, fungal-fighting anti-dandruff ingredient.

Should You Wait?

If you’re suffering from dandruff, should you wait for the big medical corporations to bring to market an expensive new commercial anti-dandruff product utilizing silver?

Nope.  Not if you’ve got safe, natural colloidal silver on hand.  After all, you can simply add a few ounces of 10 ppm colloidal silver to your regular shampoo and shake it up to distribute the silver particles – and voila – you now have an effective silver-based shampoo.  (I’ve been doing this for years, and it really works!)

You can also do what thousands of experienced colloidal silver users have done for years, and spray a small amount of colloidal silver directly onto the scalp each day, gently working it into the scalp and then allowing it to air dry.

The result?  Like magic, the dandruff generally clears up inside of a week.  Here, from my previous article on this topic, are a few of the testimonials from people who have used colloidal silver to bring their dandruff problems to a screeching halt:

“I found out about the silver about a year ago, I am never without it. I used it on my son’s dandruff also, which the Dermatologist gave him an Rx for 65.00 shampoo that did not work. Grrrrrrrrrr…nothing worked except the silver. That and Essential Fatty Acids! Love this stuff and wish more people would be aware of it.”

-- Joanna S.

“You name it, and we've probably used colloidal silver for it!  My husband even sprays it on his hair in the mornings, for dandruff. And come to think of it, he hasn't had any dandruff to speak of in four or five years now! Owning a colloidal silver generator from The Silver Edge has given us the luxury of being able to use high-quality micro-particle colloidal silver any time we need it, and we never have to worry about the costs. The machine is very easy to use, and easy to store. And it is without a doubt the single-best money-saving appliance in my entire house!"

          -- K. Sullivan, NM

“I have got rid of my dandruff with Colloidal Silver.  And using it on burns is nothing short of astonishing. The relief is practically instant.  I cannot promote it enough. Thx Steve for all your dedication and hard work. It is very much appreciated."

          -- Peter A.

Here are some additional testimonials regarding colloidal silver and dandruff, from various online sources:

“I had dandruff as long as I can remember and have used "Head and Shoulders" for at least 25 years. One morning a few weeks ago, I ran out of shampoo and started using my wife's un-medicated kind.

I keep a bottle of colloidal silver on my bathroom counter to take a swig from each morning. It has a spray cap on it so I can use it as deodorant (works great!). I sprayed it on my hair and let it dry. I noticed the next day, my hair was nice and soft. I did it the next day and used the un-medicated shampoo again.

Now, I use it every day and have soft hair and no itchy scalp or dandruff. What a blessing! Try it. It may work for you.”

          -- UtopiaSilver.com

“I have not used the colloidal silver a lot yet but I did use it on my daughter’s hair. She has hair like I did when I was younger it got greasy within one day and the dandruff was awful. But I used the colloidal silver in her hair and there was no dandruff and it actually stayed soft and not greasy for at least 3 days after. It’s the only thing that has kept her hair free of dandruff.”

          -- UtopiaSilver.com

“I've always had dandruff, and without washing every single day with dandruff shampoo, my scalp would get itchy and flaky, and my hair would get oily. And I'd be extra susceptible to bed head, hat head, and other such embarrassments.

Depending on who you ask, dandruff seems to be fungal or yeast-oriented condition. Colloidal silver is supposed to have anti-fungal properties, right? Turns out, for me at least, it works better than the store-bought shampoo. Less itchy, less flaky, less oily. I'm calling this one Confirmed.”

 -- GreenBlueBrown.blogspot.com

In short, colloidal silver is a powerful anti-dandruff agent that, for many people, appears to be even more effective than traditional antifungal shampoos and drugs.

And now…finally…it’s even been proven by medical research to work!

Colloidal Silver for Pennies…

Colloidal silver can be purchased at just about any local health food store, or through a number of online sources including Amazon.com.

However, it’s quite literally one of the most expensive and heavily marked-up natural supplements in existence.

Health food store owners, for example, often charge as much as $20-$30 for a tiny four-ounce bottle.  Yet the cost to manufacture four ounces of colloidal silver is about 12 cents.  Yes, I said twelve cents.

O course, people are willing to pay through the nose for colloidal silver, since it’s safe and natural, and works so well against infections and related diseases.

But thankfully, there’s no need to pay such exorbitant prices for colloidal silver, when you can make your own, quickly and easily, in the comfort and privacy of your own home, for about 36 cents a quart.

Yes, you can make it yourself for its actual cost, and altogether skip the sky-high mark-ups charged by health food stores!

If you’re interested in learning how to make your own high-quality colloidal silver at home, for about 36 cents a quart, here are some additional short articles you might want to take a look at:
Meanwhile, I’ll be back next week with another great article on colloidal silver….

Yours for the safe, sane and responsible use of colloidal silver,

Researchers Again Prove Silver Ions Kill Pathogens, Not Metallic Silver

Click here to learn to make colloidal silver...
Researchers from two different medical universities in Taiwan have once again demonstrated that the ionic form of silver, and not the metallic/nanosilver form, is what kills pathogens.

Indeed, even when nanosilver is used against pathogens, it’s the silver ions being shed from the metallic silver particles that slaughter the microbes.  The nanosilver itself has little to no antimicrobial benefit.

In this latest study, the researchers used cutting edge X-ray technology to examine dead pathogens that had been treated with metallic nanosilver.  And they found the pathogens to be filled with silver ions and not the metallic nanosilver they treated them with.

In other words, the metallic nanosilver had to shed silver ions in the presence of the pathogens in order to kill them.  The nanosilver itself didn’t even penetrate the bacterial shell.  But the silver ions that were shed by the metallic nanosilver did.

This, once more, puts the lie to the oft-stated claim that the metallic form of silver kills pathogens, while the ionic form is “inert.”  The truth is quite the opposite.  Here’s the story you won’t read anywhere else…

Hi, Steve Barwick here, for The Silver Edge…

I continue to see people posting articles on the internet claiming that the metallic form of colloidal silver is the only effective antimicrobial form, and that the ionic form of colloidal silver is not effective at all against pathogens.

Of course, I’ve debunked that oft-repeated notion numerous times over the past 20 years, and have demonstrated that the truth is quite the opposite of these erroneous assertions.

I even published an entire web page replete with tons of clinical documentation and quotes from bona-fide clinical research experts to demonstrate just how false the notion is.

You can read that web page here:  True Colloidal Silver Facts

Another New Study Proves
Ionic Silver But Not Metallic Silver Kills Pathogens

Now, brand new research has confirmed the older research I’ve previously reported on – and it’s done so in quite an unusual way.
In a clinical study titled “The Antimicrobial Properties of Silver Nanoparticles in Bacillus subtilis are Mediated by Released Ag+ Ions,” clinical researchers from two different medical universities in Taiwan did something quite different from what’s been done in other studies.

First, they exposed pathogens to metallic silver nanoparticles -- i.e., very small submicroscopic particles of metallic silver -- and waited until the pathogens died.

That’s where most researchers generally stop and conclude that particles of metallic nanosilver kill pathogens.

But this intrepid group of researchers decided to take the time to examine the silver inside of the pathogens and determine what kind of silver it was.

Their hope was to determine whether the metallic nanosilver itself was the antimicrobial agent, or whether the metallic nanosilver was merely shedding silver ions in order to kill the pathogens.

What the researchers discovered was that there was no metallic nanosilver whatsoever inside of the pathogens.

Indeed, the chemical “signature” of raw metallic silver – i.e., Ag0 – could not be found.  Instead, the silver that penetrated and killed the pathogens was composed of silver ions -- i.e., Ag+ -- which through the process of oxidation had been converted inside the bacteria to Ag20 (silver oxide) after they died.

In other words, the researchers proved what I’ve said all along:  Metallic nanosilver is basically inert.  It cannot kill infectious microbes except to the extent that it sheds silver ions in the presence of the microbes, and the silver ions then penetrate the bacterial cell wall and kill the microbe.

Here’s What the Researchers Wrote

Here, in brief, is what the researchers wrote after completing their study (I’ll explain their findings briefly, afterwards):

“There is an ongoing debate over whether silver nanoparticles inherently possess toxicity, or if microbial toxicity is dependent on leached Ag+ ions [i.e, silver ions – ED] from nanoparticles.

To clarify this issue, we utilized XANES/EXAFS analysis to assess the fine structure of silver particles present within Bacillus subtilis cells treated with 100 ppm of silver nanoparticles.

This data strongly suggests that in aqueous solutions, silver nanoparticles leach off positively charged silver ions, which subsequently enter bacterial cells and are oxidized to form Ag2O [silver oxide – ED].

If silver nanoparticles entered cells directly, it would have been possible to detect spectra corresponding to the Ag standard.

… this is the first study to directly analyze silver particles present within bacterial cells treated with silver nanoparticles, and the results indicate that positively charged silver ions are primarily responsible for silver nanoparticle microbial toxicity.

…our results support the theory that silver nanoparticles exert microbial toxicity through the release of positively charged silver ions that subsequently penetrate into bacterial cells.”

-- The Antimicrobial Properties of Silver Nanoparticles in Bacillus subtilis are Mediated by Released Ag+ Ions, PLOS-One, December 15, 2015

This is quite fascinating, of course, because the so-called “true colloidal silver” crowd is always claiming that silver ions become neutralized in the body and therefore cannot kill pathogens, and that only metallic nanosilver (aka silver nanoparticles) can penetrate the shell wall of the microbes and kill them.

But this new study (along with many older studies I document on the aforementioned True Colloidal Silver Facts web page) demonstrates conclusively that metallic silver nanoparticles don’t penetrate infectious microbes and kill them, but silver ions being shed by the metallic silver nanoparticles do.

Proper Examination Proves the Point

What makes this new study stand out head-and-shoulders above the others is that the researchers actually took the time to examine the silver inside of the dead microbes, and determine what actually killed them.

They used a special form of x-ray analysis called “XANES/EXAFS analysis” to determine what kind of silver would be found inside the dead microbes.

And what they found were silver ions that had penetrated the bacterial shells, killed the bacteria, and then were oxidized, i.e., turning the ionic silver into silver oxide similar to the gray coating you’ll find on the positive silver rod of a colloidal silver generator after making a batch of ionic colloidal silver.

Indeed, the researchers essentially concluded that the metallic nanosilver serves as nothing more than a carrier or reservoir of silver ions.  But it cannot kill the pathogen without shedding those ions.  The silver ions are the real assassins.  The metallic nanosilver is merely the vehicle through which the silver ions are delivered to the microbe.

All of which leads me to point out once again that the ionic form of colloidal silver is superior to the metallic nanosilver form, because it doesn’t have to be converted from metallic silver to ionic silver inside the human body in order to be effective.

This demonstrates once more that the silver ion (i.e., ionic silver) is the active, infection-fighting form of silver, and that metallic nanosilver can only work against pathogens to the extent it sheds silver ions.

More importantly, it demonstrates that when researchers claim they’ve proven in clinical studies that nanosilver kills pathogens, they’ve never checked to see if the “specie” of silver inside the pathogens is the metallic nanosilver they used in the study, or the silver ions being shed by the nanosilver in the presence of the pathogens.

Instead, they simply assumed it was the metallic nanosilver doing the killing.  And of course, as the old saying goes, whenever one “assumes” something, the end result often makes an “ass” out of “u” and “me.”

The Rice University Study

In a previous clinical study which I reported on several years ago, researchers from Rice University produced similar results:

Quoting directly from the Abstract of the Rice University study, titled "Negligible Particle-Specific Antibacterial Activity of Silver Nanoparticles", which was published in the July 5, 2012 issue of the journal Nano Letters:

"For nearly a decade, researchers have debated the mechanisms by which silver nanoparticles exert toxicity to bacteria and other organisms. The most elusive question has been whether the silver nanoparticles exert direct "particle-specific" effects beyond the known antimicrobial activity of released silver ions (Ag+).

Here, we infer that silver ions are the definitive molecular toxicant.
We rule out direct particle-specific biological effects by showing the lack of toxicity of silver nanoparticles when synthesized and tested under strictly anaerobic conditions that preclude Ag(0) oxidation and Ag+ release.”

In other words, when the researchers took away the ability of the metallic nanosilver to shed silver ions, the metal particles were no longer toxic to bacteria. It is only when metallic silver (i.e., nanosilver) is able to shed silver ions that it can kill bacteria.

So the big question is this:  Why bother to use metallic nanosilver at all, when instead you can simply use the active infection-fighting form of colloidal silver – ionic silver – and kill the pathogens faster and more reliably?

Ionic Colloidal Silver

Not only is ionic silver the active, infection-fighting form of colloidal silver, it’s also extremely easy to make with the right equipment.  In fact, it’s so easy I know 85 year old grandmas who routinely make their own high-quality ionic colloidal silver.

Of course, ionic colloidal silver is sold in just about every health food store in America. Indeed, it’s the #1 most popular form of colloidal silver on the market, and that’s because it works so well against pathogens.  But it’s awfully expensive to buy, averaging about $20 to $30 for a tiny four-ounce bottle, which is about $5 to $7 per ounce.

Thankfully, you can make your own high-quality ionic colloidal silver for about one penny per ounce, with a new Micro-Particle Colloidal Silver Generator from The Silver Edge.

What’s more, colloidal silver is so simple to make at home, anyone who can use a coffee pot has all the skill needed to make their own safe, natural ionic colloidal silver.  Let me demonstrate for you how amazingly simple it is:

4.) Plug the generator into the timer and then turn the timer wheel clockwise until you hear the generator start bubbling. The generator will shut off automatically after three hours.
It’s really that easy!  You just “Set it, and forget it.” And you get a perfect batch of high-quality micro-particle colloidal silver every time!

When you’re finished, you’ll have a full quart of high-quality micro-particle colloidal silver.  And you can make quart after quart for the rest of your life, for less than 36 cents each!

Indeed, the set of pure .999 fine silver rods that comes with your generator is enough to make over $24,000 worth of colloidal silver (I’m not kidding you; see here)!

Why should you ever again pay $20 to $30 for a tiny, four-ounce bottle of ionic colloidal silver at the health food store, when you can make your own superior-quality micro-particle ionic colloidal silver for just pennies per quart?

Zero Deaths from Colloidal Silver…Again!

Click here to learn how to make colloidal silver...
Search the web and you’ll find a half dozen medical-related web sites containing shrill warnings about the supposed dangers of colloidal silver usage.

They’ll claim it causes everything from organ failure to death.  But in virtually every case, these web sites are run by individuals or companies associated with Big Pharma.

What do they have in common?  It’s simple:  They’re wrong.  While the death toll from Big Phama’s drugs continues to skyrocket year after year, deaths from colloidal silver usage remain at ZERO.

Here’s the straight scoop you won’t find anywhere else…

Hi, Steve Barwick here, for The Silver Edge…

At the end of every year the American Association of Poison Control Centers publishes their Annual Report in the journal Clinical Toxicology, in which they document the number of deaths for the previous year associated with various substances.

So in December 2015 they published the results for the year 2014.

The report covers everything from prescription drugs to vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other nutritional supplements, and even to household items like bleach or bug poison.

And every year there are ZERO deaths from colloidal silver.  Every.  Single.  Year.

On the other hand, for the sake of comparison, under the category “Dietary Supplements/Herbals, Homeopathic/Amino Acids” you can find the following notations for 2014:

·       The mineral iron was credited with causing one death.

·       An unnamed “energy product” was credited with causing two deaths.

·       An unnamed “multi-botanical” product was created with causing one death.

·       And an unnamed “single ingredient botanical supplement” was credited with causing one death.

·       And vitamins caused no deaths whatsoever.

So based on these numbers, colloidal silver usage is as safe as vitamin usage, and safer than just about any other category of nutritional supplement.

Compared to Medical Deaths

Keep in mind there are tens of millions of nutritional supplement users in the U.S.  And cumulatively speaking, billions of doses of nutritional supplements – including colloidal silver -- are taken each year in this country.

Yet the annual death toll from supplements remains…well…negligible, to say the least.  Indeed, you can count them on one hand.

On the other hand, however, according to the Journal of the American Medical Association (i.e., the Starfield study, “Is U.S. Health Really the Best in the World?”), every year in the US there are an astonishing 225,000 medically-caused deaths, including:

·       12,000 deaths from unnecessary surgeries;

·       7,000 deaths from medication errors in hospitals;

·       20,000 deaths from other errors in hospitals;

·       80,000 deaths from infections acquired in hospitals;

·       106,000 deaths from FDA-approved correctly prescribed medicines.

That’s a total of 225,000 medically caused deaths each and every year in the U.S. That's 2.25 MILLION deaths per decade.

So the next time you read one of those news articles with screaming headlines about how “unsafe” nutritional supplements are, and how badly they need to be “regulated like drugs by the FDA”…

… ask yourself if you really want the FDA involved in “regulating” something so safe, you can quite literally count the number of annual deaths on one hand.

There are quite literally tens of millions of dedicated nutritional supplement users in the U.S., collectively gulping down billions of doses per year of their favorite supplements.

And the death toll for these supplements in a bad year is:  five.  The previous year (2013) there were actually zero deaths from nutritional supplements of any kind.

Yet the medical community continues to kill some 106,000 men, women and children each year with prescription drugs, and another 119,000 people per year with surgery  and other medical interventions, including medical errors.

But it’s the supplements that are always under attack with shrills cries for greater regulation, and never Big Pharma and the medical community.

Go figure.

Colloidal Silver Naysayers

Of course, you’re always going to have shills for Big Pharma knocking colloidal silver.

For example, on the infamous WebMD.com site – a site that routinely promotes Big Pharma drugs and medical interventions -- you’ll find the following shrill negative statement about colloidal silver:

"People believe that colloidal silver can treat fungal infections, TB, HIV, herpes, and even cancer by boosting the immune system," says Ted Epperly, MD, president-elect of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Unfortunately for colloidal sliver supporters, they're wrong, and the consequences of their mistake could be costly.

"One of the most well-known side effects of colloidal silver is that it turns a person's skin a greyish shade of blue," says Epperly.

The skin isn't the only organ affected by colloidal silver; so are the kidneys, stomach, and brain, as well as the nervous system.

Silver is actually deposited into the cells of these organs, possibly causing cell damage and death, leading to organ failure.

"The effects of colloidal silver are toxic and cumulative," says Epperly. "Worse, they're irreversible."

Scary, right?  Those are actually the very same talking points you’ll find on other Big Pharma oriented websites, as well, such as MayoClinic.com and even the notorious Quackbusters.org.

Indeed, that’s a pretty typical comment on the supposed “dangers” of colloidal silver from supporters of Big Pharma.  So let’s analyze it, line-by-line, and see where it holds water, and where it doesn’t.

Truth v/s Fiction

His first charge against colloidal silver is as follows is that people take it to boost immunity so their body can better fight off infections and disease.  And he ominously warns “they’re wrong, and the consequences of their mistake could be costly.”

Here, the good doctor employs a linguistic trick to scare people.  He says people believe colloidal silver can be used to “treat” certain infections, and even cancer, “by boosting the immune system.”

Actually, that’s a misnomer.  What people “believe” is that colloidal silver can be used as a nutritional adjunct to help the body conquer infectious microbes.

This belief is based on hundreds of clinical studies that have demonstrated silver’s often astonishing ability to kill pathogens – even deadly, drug-resistant super-pathogens.

Indeed, there is no argument against silver’s ability to kill infectious microbes.  It works.  It’s been proven hundreds of times in clinical studies.  And you’d have to be willingly blind to ignore the heaping mountains of clinical data that confirm this fact.

As for boosting immunity, it’s true that modern clinical studies have not been conducted to demonstrate whether or not colloidal silver can actually boost the immune system.

Nevertheless, researchers like Dr. Robert O. Becker, M.D. of Syracuse Medical University, who for years studied the ability of electrically-generated silver to kill pathogens and heal wounds, has repeatedly claimed to have noticed a distinct correlation between the amount of silver in one’s body and the health of the individual -- with healthier people having more silver in their body and sickly people having lower levels of silver.

Dr. Becker – a surgeon by training, who conducted ground-breaking research into silver and healing at Syracuse Medical University -- claims that the lower one’s bodily silver levels are, the more sickness and disease one is likely to have.  He wrote:

“While analyzing hair samples and questioning the parties involved, I noticed the correlation between low silver levels and sickness.

People who showed low silver levels in their hair analysis were frequently sick. They seemed to have innumerable colds, flu, fevers, and various other sicknesses.

I believe that a silver deficiency may be the key to the improper function of the immune system."

What’s more, in his article, “Stop Supergerms in Their Tracks with One Powerful Silver Bullet,” Harvard-educated Dr. Jonathan Wright, M.D., of the famous Tahoma Clinic in Washington State has pointed to older research confirming silver’s ability to boost immunity,:

“In 1909, the Journal of the American Medical Association was the first medical journal to point out that colloidal silver could actually increase our immune cells' phagocytic index.

In the past few years, more studies have shown that silver ions greatly enhance the essential second part of the phagocytic index-the part where the germ is digested by our immune cells.

This is brought about because silver ions increase the "digesting juices" (what you know as hydrogen peroxide) of these immune cells."

And according to clinical researcher V. Edwards-Jones, writing in Letters in Applied Microbiology, in an article titled, “The Benefits of Silver in Hygiene, Personal Care and Healthcare”:

"Silver has been used for centuries as an antimicrobial agent to reduce bio-burden and prevent infection.

…Increasing evidence of improved antimicrobial activity of nanoparticles of silver and possible dual immunomodulatory effects are exciting."

So the evidence that colloidal silver boosts immunity is indeed available.

But WebMD chooses to quote Big Pharma supporter Dr. Ted Epperly instead of those who have actually conducted clinical research, or who are familiar with existing clinical research, or even those who have used colloidal silver themselves in their clinical work.

Let’s take a quick look at the next potshot taken by Dr. Epperly in his quote published on WebMD.  He claims that one of the “most well-known side effects of colloidal silver is that it turns a person’s skin a grayish shade of blue.”

Note that Dr. Epperly’s statement is conclusive, and all-encompassing.  He states matter-of-factly that silver “turns a person’s skin a grayish shade of blue.”

What he doesn’t point out, however, is the simple fact that, historically speaking, the vast majority of cases of argyric skin-staining have been caused by the use of chemically-produced prescription silver compounds given by doctors to their patients.  Comparatively few cases have been caused by the use of safe, natural colloidal silver.

Even in the very few rare cases in which colloidal silver has been directly involved in argyric skin-staining, it was excessive daily dosages ingested regularly for months or years on end that have caused the problem.

Why would Dr. Epperly neglect to point out such a well-known fact?

Why did he try to make it sound as if any colloidal silver usage at all will result in skin discoloration, when millions upon millions of people around the world use colloidal silver regularly, in small daily amounts, with no negative effects at all?

I can’t read Dr. Epperly’s mind, of course.  But I’ll bet a dollar to a donut that he didn’t point it out because his goal is to scare the bejabbers out of people so they won’t try colloidal silver.

It appears to me he wants people to believe that any colloidal silver usage will turn you “a grayish shade of blue.”

The truth is this:

Colloidal silver can indeed cause argyric skin-staining.  But out of literally millions of colloidal silver users on planet earth today only a dozen or so cases of argyria have been documented in recent medical literature.

And those all had the same thing in common:

Rather than taking the recommended small daily dosages of colloidal silver, they used colloidal silver abusively, taking it in ungodly high amounts on a regular daily basis for months or years on end.

In other words, while Dr. Epperly is correct in stating that colloidal silver can cause argyric skin-staining, I’d wager $100 that he can’t bring forth a single individual with this condition who was taking normal colloidal silver dosages of a teaspoonful to an ounce a day.

Indeed, I can make that bet with supreme confidence, because there are zero cases of argyric skin-staining documented in the medical literature, from people who were taking the normal recommended daily dosages.  Zero.

People who end up with discolored skin from using colloidal silver are, in virtually every case, those who were taking eight, ten, twelve or even twenty ounces a day for months or years on end.

And they’re just about as rare as people who have turned orange from eating too many carrots (yes, it’s quite possible to do so; the condition is actually called carotenemia).

The infamous “colloidal silver blue man,” Paul Karason, admitted on national television that he was taking 10 to 20 ounces of colloidal silver per day, for ten years, before he experienced skin-staining.  (That, as opposed to a normal daily adult dosage of one teaspoon per day to an ounce a day, depending upon body weight.)

In other words, argyria victims who were using colloidal silver were massively overdosing themselves on it, on a regular daily basis for years on end.  They weren’t using it at normal levels, but instead, and highly abnormal levels.

But Dr. Epperly doesn’t see fit to mention this.  Not even a peep. He apparently wants people to think any colloidal silver usage will result in skin discoloration.  But it’s simply not true.  Never has been.

(For example, I’ve been using small daily amounts of colloidal silver for 20 years now, and the only thing blue on me is my eyes, and I assure you, I was born that way.)

Let’s examine what else Dr. Epperly said in his WebMD quote.  He claims that not only is the skin affected by colloidal silver, but also “the kidneys, stomach, and brain, as well as the nervous system.”

He also says silver can be deposited into cells and organs, “leading to organ failure.”

So where’s the evidence for this claim?

For example, how many cases of organ failure due to colloidal silver usage are reported each year, compared to, say, an over-the-counter drug like Tylenol?

According to DrugWatch.com, “Tylenol overdose is the most common cause of acute liver failure in the country…it accounts for more than 100,000 calls to poison centers, roughly 60,000 emergency-room visits and hundreds of deaths each year in the United States.  In England, it’s the leading cause of liver failure requiring transplants.”

Well, isn’t that just wonderful?

Why doesn’t Dr. Epperly mention this?  Why does he slam colloidal silver, instead of Tylenol?  Has Dr. Epperly ever even seen a case of organ failure caused by colloidal silver usage?

The fact is, I’ve only been able to find two documented cases of organ damage caused by colloidal silver usage in the past 20 years, and in both of those cases the individuals were taking excessively high amounts, and were also on long-term prescription drugs known to cause toxicity in the human body.

In his book, “Colloidal Silver, a Literature Review,” Dr. John Hill, D.C., reveals the following:

“Critics of colloidal silver sometimes state that it has been known to cause organ damage, kidney damage, pulmonary edema, atherosclerosis and death.

“These claims appear to be based on a research study on dogs in which the dogs were deliberately killed by extremely large lethal doses of silver.

“At the doses given, any metal and probably many essential minerals like zinc, iron, copper, etc. would have produced death in similar fashion."

And as Dr. Alan B.G. Lansdown, Britain’s foremost expert on the medical use of silver has stated in his book, Silver in Healthcare:  It’s Antimicrobial Efficacy and Safety in Use”:

“…few examples exist to show that silver accumulation in any tissue is a cause of cytogenicity, mutagenicity or functional disturbances.”

But Dr. Epperly ignores the evidence and doubles down on his contentions by claiming:

"The effects of colloidal silver are toxic and cumulative.  Worse, they're irreversible."

Wrong again.  As Alan B.G. Lansdown has stated in his ground-breaking book, “Silver in Healthcare:  It’s Antimicrobial Efficacy and Safety in Use”:

“..there is very little substantive evidence that silver acts either as a cumulative poison in the human body like lead and mercury, or that it reaches toxic levels in any tissue…

“Contrary to statements that all forms of silver are cumulative once they enter body tissues and that very little is excreted, silver is actively metabolized in the human body and a large part eliminated eventually via the liver, urine and hair…

Silver is not known to be a cumulative toxin…”

Lansdown goes on to say, “Silver does not enter neurological tissues and is not neurotoxic as has been supposed by several case studies.”

What’s more, the Dartmouth University Toxic Metals Research Program states:

"Trace amounts of silver are in the bodies of all humans and animals. We normally take in between 70 and 88 micrograms of silver a day, half of that amount from our diet.

Humans have evolved with efficient methods of dealing with that intake, however. Over 99 percent is readily excreted from the body.

Is silver harmful to humans?

Unlike other metals such as lead and mercury, silver is not toxic to humans and is not known to cause cancer, reproductive or neurological damage, or other chronic adverse effects."

So it looks like Dr. Epperly is…well…basically wrong on all counts.  All wet.  Not a leg to stand on.  And sinking in the quicksand of his own shrill hyperbolic rhetoric.

But his quote on WebMD.com is indeed a glaring example of how Big Pharma shills try to demonize colloidal silver usage.

Just remember:  There have been ZERO deaths each year from colloidal silver usage, even with millions of users nationally, and tens of millions of users worldwide.

But there are 225,000 documented deaths per year from prescription drugs and medical interventions such as those practiced by Dr. Epperly and his compatriots in the medical community.

Hmmm.  Which would you trust more?

Yes, you can make it yourself for its actual cost, and altogether skip the high mark-ups charged by health food stores!

If you’re interested in learning how to make your own high-quality colloidal silver at home, for about 36 cents a quart, here are some additional short articles you might want to take a look at:
