Pets and Colloidal Silver

We live on a couple of acres way out in the middle of the southern California desert. And our cat, whose name is Scaredy Cat, is strictly an outdoor cat. He is also a great mouser. But he occassionally gets sick, probably from some of the things he eats when he is on the prowl. (We feed him very well, but from some of the things he's brought home, you'd think we were starving him.)

Anyway, whenever he is sick we put a bowl of colloidal silver out next to his regular water bowl. And without exception, he will drink from the bowl of colloidal silver rather than the water bowl. And it always does the trick, fast. He is back up and about in no time. There is something about colloidal silver that animals just love. It cures their stomach infections very quickly.

We also give it to our dogs when they are sick. We have four large outdoor dogs, a male black Lab, a big red male Chow, a beautiful female German Shepherd (our newest addition), and a male mixed German Shepherd/Boxer.

All of them except for the Shepherd/Boxer were rescued, meaning they had either run away from their homes and gotten lost out in the desert, or their owners abandoned them in the desert and left them to fend for themselves. You wouldn't believe how many abandoned dogs we've come across out here, and have had to find homes for. Once, we found five tiny puppies out in the middle of the desert. They had already been weaned, so it was clear someone had actually driven them out into the middle of the desert away from any houses, and simply left them to die. We rescued them and found good homes for them, of course.

Since there are roving packs of coyotes out here, and summer temperatures can get as high as 115 degrees, lost or abandoned animals don't last very long. Over the past 14 years we've come across a number of dog carcases within just miles of our home in the desert. So when we find a live one, we do our best to find a good home for him (or her). And short of that, we keep them ourselves and take good care of them.

What's really neat is that all four of our big dogs instinctively know to drink the colloidal silver we set out for them any time they are sick.

It is amazing to put it next to their water bowls, and see that they will go straight to it rather than to their water. It is as if they sense there is something healing in it. That's probably the only thing Scaredy Cat and our four big dogs have in common.

The black Lab -- which we found two years ago -- is particularly prone to infections in the winter months. But colloidal silver clears them right up. He is the oldest dog of the four. And when we found him some years back he had tumors (soft and watery, as opposed to hard) on his sides and chest, and was already having trouble with arthritis in his hindquarters, which is common to older Labradors. What we have noticed is that if we give him his colloidal silver regularly, he is able to get out and run with the other dogs when we go on our long walks through the desert together. And his tumors seem to shink up substantially. But if we fail to give him the colloidal silver for a two or three weeks in a row, his back haunches become more arthritic and he has a bit of trouble getting up from a lying position. He is not able to keep up with the other dogs on our long walks. And his tumors actually begin to grow larger.

So it is the colloidal silver that keeps him in good shape, and he knows it. There has never been a time in which we've brought him a bowl of colloidal silver that he has failed to drink from it, usually until it is gone. He absolutely loves the stuff.

We always give our animals homemade colloidal silver -- made with one of the new Micro-Particle Colloidal Silver Generators -- at about 5 to 10 ppm in strength. If they seem really sick, we give it to them straight, i.e., we'll set out a bowl with about eight to 10 ounces of colloidal silver in it, and let them drink as much as they please at their own pace. From time to time we also mix an ounce or two of 10 ppm strength colloidal silver into their regular quart-sized water bowls. During the hot summer months, we buy small plastic children's pools for them and fill them with water, so they can drink from them, or even go dip themselves in the water when they get too hot. We usually add a quart of micro-particle colloidal silver to the pool water every week, to keep it free of potentially infective microbes.

I learned about colloidal silver nearly 14 years ago after my wife suffered from a very serious infected toe which the doctors wanted to amputate. You can read the story about how colloidal silver saved the day for her, by going to my web site at http://www.TheSilverEdge.com/. We have been using colloidal silver successfully ever since that time for a variety of infections and illnesses. In fact, we've used it successfully for everything from Pink Eye and styes, to sore throats, earaches, food poisoning, colds, the flu, topical skin infections and much more!

Of course, we don't overdo it and take large amounts daily, like that so-called colloidal silver "blue man" you may have seen recently on television (see previous post on that subject, below). We are very careful to use moderation in every aspect of our nutritional supplementation regimen. And I have long been a very vocal advocate for the responsible usage of colloidal silver.

For my personal usage, I take about an ounce of 10 ppm colloidal silver a day, on average, to keep illnesses at bay and to help boost immunity. And my wife only takes it when she feels a bit under the weather and needs a boost. But she might take as much as four or five ounces a time for a couple of days if she is not feeling well. We have done so for nearly 14 years now with no side effects and no problems. Nothing but positive, and very beneficial results. In fact, though I suffered from chronic fatigue syndrome for many long years before we found out about colloidal silver, I have not had a serious chronic fatigue crash since I first started using colloidal silver nearly 14 years ago.

Because of my personal experiences with colloidal silver, which led to an enthusiastic curiosity about it that later turned into a journalistic crusade, I have helped develop some very fascinating and helpful products for making colloidal silver. And I've started a web site about colloidal silver at http://www.TheSilverEdge.com/. There is lots of good information on the web site, and a FREE downloadable colloidal silver "safe dosage" report, too.

I have also written a 500-page book about colloidal silver usage, called The Ultimate Colloidal Silver Manual, which I am happy to say is now the #1 best-selling book on colloidal silver in the world. For more information on it, see http://www.LifeandHealthResearchGroup.com/.

While you are there, be sure to check out the information on the brand new Colloidal Silver Secrets video, which is available very inexpensively, in both DVD and VHS formats.

And by the way, while you are reading this blog, be sure to check out the short, 3-minute video on How to Operate the New Micro-Particle Colloidal Silver Generator, located on the right-hand side of this blog under "Video Bar" near the article links.

This morning I was doing a frantic search on letting cats drink Colloidal Silver water. I was afraid I might have harmed my beloved cat, Friday. Your article calmed my fears somewhat...I have some questions for you even after reading your article.

Here is the background on my kitty.

Friday is ten years old. About 4 years ago she was had "Fatty Liver Syndrome". A feeding tube was installed to force feed her for 9 weeks. She recovered 100%.

This brings us up to today.

I changed my cats food last week to another brand. At the same time, I put out a bowl of Silver water (full strength) for my cats to drink. They loved it. After the bowl of Silver water was finished off (in about a day and a half--I have 5 cats inside, all rescues) I then put back their regular water. By this time my cat Friday stopped eating and drinking. So, I don't know if it is the new food or if I "poisoned" her with Silver water. Is it possible to poison cats with Silver, full strength?

This morning I offered her some ham. I also "begged" her to drink water, I felt like she was close to dehydration. She would not drink water. I offered her milk (which I know is not good for cats) she did not drink the milk. Out of desperation, I offered some Silver water. She lapped it up like the thirsty cat she was. I know you are not a vet, so I am not asking for advice. What I am asking is it possible to over do Silver water? I am scared I hurt her liver again. However, this morning gave me hope. Money is extremely tight for us right now. I will get her to the vet if she doesn't turn around by tomorrow morning.

I just need someone with experience in Silver water and pets to tell me the truth...if I poisoned her or not.

Thank you so much and thank you for rescuing pets...I also have saved so many lives of abandoned animals.

Regards,
Lisa

I am neither a Doctor, Pharmacist, or Veterinarian. So please dont' take anything I say as being "prescriptive" in nature. However, I do have experience with Colloidal Silver and pets (and 12 years of personal use myself).

My experience (and the shared experiences of other Colloidal Silver Generator owners who have called the tech support offices of TheSilverEdge.com) has been similar.

When a dog or cat suffering from an infection is offered both a bowl of plain drinking water and pure (straight) undiluted 10 ppm Colloidal Silver made with a new Micro-Particle Colloidal Silver Generator from www.TheSilverEdge.com, invariably the water bowl is ignored and the Colloidal Silver is consumed.
(Animals are generally considered smarter than most people; they have an innate sense of what is good for them, or needed by their bodies.)

No one to date has related any problems whatsoever with their pets as a result of giving them colloidal silver.

On the internet, there are numerous posted comments for dogs, and also some for cats and horses, in regards to colloidal silver consumption. I have come across several companies that sell Colloidal Silver (and a competitor that sells generators) advocating Colloidal Silver for pets, too.

Even fish and amphibian pet owners use Colloidal Silver, and these creatures are somewhat delicate. One company developed a Colloidal Silver product for a Koi breeder, and with the success of the product the formula was offered for retail sale. Commercial Aqua Culture companies are known to treat entire ponds with bulk Colloidal Silver products.

The bottom line is that colloidal silver is widely used for animals ranging from tiny fish to larger animals like cats and dogs.

I have used Colloidal Silver at 10 PPM concentration, adding one quart to a 55 gallon aquarium, in order to treat bacterial infections for both Koi and Goldfish with excellent results.

Many callers tell us their pets are in amazingly good health as a result of their occassional colloidal silver usage.

I am sure you have observed the following: "Cats are cats." Overall, they are more self-contained, more independent, and I would add, have more common sense than any domesticated animal. Cats are sometimes fussy, finicky eaters and can drive their owners to distraction.

The change of brands of cat food is the more likely reason for your cat's hunger strike. That's why we rarely changed brands with the family cat, or if we did we had to coach him to eat the new brand by adding his favorite "people" food to it, spaghetti. Cats haven't seemed to have changed in anyway with the passage of time.

I do not think you have poisoned your cat. Taking into account a shared water bowl and the relative non-toxicity of Silver (despite what the media claims from time to time), I believe you pet is not at risk.

Silver reclamation workers in Scandinavia have been observed to be in great health even after 25 years employment. These workers inhale Silver dust daily as a result of their occupation and are exposed to very high intake to silver. Clinical investigation of these workers over 20 years has demonstrated the non-toxic nature of Silver.

Hi there!
I have also been trying to find out if colloidal silver is ok to give to cats. I happen to have a dropper bottle of it for myself (500 ppm)and wanted to give it to my cat for her severe gingivitis, which I did research on and think she has LPGS. I wanted to get her started right away because she is now only eating meat baby food because everything else hurts her mouth. She is getting thin and I am worried. This sickness causes bacteria to get into the blood so I thought the silver might help her. Also to keep it out of her mouth. I have 10 (inside only)cats--all adopted from rescues and can't really afford the visit to the vet to confirm her problem. (it would be extremely expensive). If there is a chance the silver will work I will try it on her immediately. Her breath smells terrible and she drools foul-smelling drool once in a while.
Please help ASAP!!
Thanks so much!
Connie :)

Connie, I don't know enough about pet diseases to comment, except to say that I've personally given colloidla silver to my own cats and to very good effect.

You mention having a colloidal silver product that is 500 ppm. That is very strong colloidal silver. For a pet it would need to be diluted significantly, I would think. For example, around here we only take 10-20 ppm colloidla silver. You might have to dilute yours with distilled water before giving it to your cat.

We just put pure 10 ppm colloidal silver in a small water bowl for our cat, and he will usually drink it without coaxing. We just leave it next to his food and regular water bowl.

On rare occassion, if he is really ill, we take an eye dropper and fill it with 10 ppm colloidal silver and simply squirt some into his mouth four or five times a day, for a few days.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

I read your blog regarding your lab, and I suddenly feel "hopeful".

I have a 12yr old flat coated retreiver (106 lbs) that has arthritis and a tumor on the top of his foot.

I took him to the vet about this "lump" 2 wks ago. It started as a pea size around Christmas, and grew to the size of a "shooter marble" in a couple months.

The vet tried to asperate it, but nothing came out except a couple drops of blood (which she said was not enough to be sent away to be analyzed). His temp was also up a bit, so she thought it "might" be an infection and put him on cephalexin for 2 weeks.

I took him back today and the lump had gotten bigger. She ruled out an infection and gave me 3 options. One was to have it surgically removed (which would also involve amputating his toe so there would be enough skin to close the hole), doing nothing and just enjoy the time we have left together, and 3 of course was euthanization.

Well, the first and third options didn't seem like good ones since he has bad hips and knees and to operate and remove a toe on his right foot would only hinder him more. He already has trouble gettig up and down, so he sure doesn't need ANOTHER foot messed up! He is alert and happy and mobile no matter how slow it is. He is a happy guy, so the third choice doesn't seem viable either.

That leaves the middle choice. The CS seems like it did ALOT for your lab! I would like to try it on my flat coated retreiver. After all..."modern medical science" seems to have failed us, and I just HAVE to "try"!!!

You mentioned leaving a bowl of CS water for your dogs, but you didn't say how much of it? I only have the 1 dog, if I fill a bowl with it, what happens if he drinks the whole bowl? How long do you leave the bowl there before you change it?

This seems to be my last and best stab at helping him. Please give me some more directions on this as I already went to the store and bought the batteries. I have 2 99.99% ingots that I purchased a few years ago, but I don't think silver "goes bad" does it? They are a bit tarnished (?) from sitting around...how do I clean them? How long does it "cook"? What if you use a 27volt step-down transformer? How long would that take? I figured the batteries wear down pretty quick.

Thanks for any and ALL of your help.

The usual caveats apply: I am not a Doctor, Pharmacist, or Veterinarian. So please dont' take anything I say as being "prescriptive" in nature.

However, I do have experience with Colloidal Silver and pets (and 12 years of personal use myself).

You stated, "You mentioned leaving a bowl of CS water for your dogs, but you didn't say how much of it?"

We simply poured a 16 ounce glass of 10 ppm colloidal silver made with a Micro-Particle Colloidal Silver Generator (www.TheSilverEdge.com) into a glass bowl, and set it out for our lab. He generally drank as much as he wanted, which was often half, or more. Sometimes he didn't want any. We let him decide how much he wanted. And we always left his regular water bowl full, so he could drink plain water if he wanted.

You stated, "I only have the 1 dog, if I fill a bowl with it, what happens if he drinks the whole bowl?"

Well, I can't tell you what will happen to your dog, but ours was fine. He never had an adverse reaction to the silver, and today he is as happy and healthy as when we were regularly giving him the colloidal silver.

You stated, "How long do you leave the bowl there before you change it?"

We gave him a fresh batch nightly. And continued to do so for about a month. We still give him a bowlful every once in a while, such as once every two weeks. Sometimes he drinks a little, sometimes a lot, and sometimes none at all. We let him decide whether he needs any, or not.

By the way, this is one of the beauties of owning a high-quality colloidal silver generator such as the new Micro-Particle Colloidal Silver Generator from www.TheSilverEdge.com. You could never afford to use this much silver if it were purchased from a health food store. After all, most health food stores charge anywhere from $15 to $30 for tiny four-ounce bottles of colloidal silver. But you can make a quart of high-quality micro-particle colloidal silver at a time, for about 36 cents. That makes it extremely affordable. You never have to worry about "wasting" any, because it is so inexpensive to make.

You stated, "This seems to be my last and best stab at helping him. Please give me some more directions on this as I already went to the store and bought the batteries. I have 2 99.99% ingots that I purchased a few years ago, but I don't think silver "goes bad" does it?"

No silver does not go bad.

You wrote, "They are a bit tarnished (?) from sitting around...how do I clean them?"

You can clean tarnished silver with a small green scrubby pad from the kitchen section of your local supermarket. Just make sure you use the kind that does NOT have soap embedded in the scrubby pad."

You asked, "How long does it 'cook'?"

I am not sure what you mean? I don't know what kind of homemade colloidal silver rig you are going to be using. We always use the Micro-Particle Colloidal Silver Generator from www.TheSilverEdge.com

You asked, "What if you use a 27volt step-down transformer? How long would that take? I figured the batteries wear down pretty quick."

It really depends upon how much silver you have in contact with the water, and whether or not you are using a 27 volt DC power system that puts out 27 volts DC at the point of contact with the silver.

You state you are using two .999 fine silver ingots, but I don't know what you mean by that. Are they bars? If so, how large? Are the coins? If so, are they tenth-ounce, half-ounce or one-ounce silver rounds?

I personally have always used pure silver wire (12 gauge), with about six inches or so of silver wire suspended into pure steam-distilled water. So any answer I could give you based on the information you've provided would be a "best guess" answer.

Again (and please forgive me in advance for emphasizing this so much) you should use a professionally constructed colloidal silver generator, so you know exactly what you are getting. Otherwise, there are simply too many variables.

If you were using some kind of 27 volt DC system and you had one-ounce .999 fine silver rounds halfway suspended in about 8-ounces of water, my best guess would be that in about an hour and a half you would have about 10 ppm.

Again, that's a guess, based on the dearth of information. Consider getting a generator, while they are still legal to purchase. That way, you'll be able to make pure, high-quality colloidal silver for the rest of your life. And since everything comes pre-calibrated, you won't have to worry about adjusting for variables like how much silver is touching the water, how much voltage is being generated, etc.

I'll be happy to find out if the colloidal silver helps your dog. He'll be in our thoughts and prayers.

Regards,
Spencer

I have an eight year old dog and she has a fused joint in her front left leg. She was in an accident when she was one and the orthopedic surgeon fused her joint with a metal plate and screws. One year ago her body decided to refuse the hardware and and infection has developed. She has been on antibiotics for one year and it cannot continue. The plate cannot be removed and I think she is too old for amputation which I would rather not do. I have purchased a colloidal silver generator and have been giving her six ounces per day and 10-15ppm for one week so far. There is no sign of infection as of yet, although I am wondering if she is getting too much or when I should lessen the amount or just give her less. Your insight on this would be helpful as I don't want to give her more than she needs. Thanks.

I'm not a veterinarian or a doctor, so I can't give you specific advice. But when our Black Lab had an infection I just filled an extra water bowl with colloidal silver each day and sat it next to his regular water bowl. I let him decide how much colloidal silver he wanted. Most of the time he'd drink from the colloidal silver water bowl rather than the regular water bowl. He was probably drinking eight or ten ounces a day, minimum. I've seen him do as much as 16 ounces. Of course, he's a big dog. But I let him tell me how much colloidal silver he wanted. He seemed to have an innate understanding that the silver water was good for him.

After a few weeks I just started giving him a few ounces a day and watched to see if the infection returned. And after about a month I quit giving him the silver water.

About a year later he got infected again and I simply repeated the same process, with the same results.

In my experience, if you give a dog the choice between colloidal silver and regular water, he'll only drink the silver when he needs it. But you know your dog better than anyone, so whether that would work for you, only you can tell.

Hello,

I've been giving my cat straight colloidal silver to drink for a mycoplasma bacteria infection. His symptoms have much improved, but I've noticed he now has a rusty colored stain on the fur of his lower lip. I assume that's the silver as there was also a ring around the water dish the same color. Can you tell me how to safely remove the stain?

Thank you.

Steve Barwick said...

I've never heard of such a thing happening, and I've been giving colloidal silver to my pets in their water bowels for over 13 years.

Are you using a metal water bowl?

You should only use a glass or plastic water bowl, preferably glass. A metal water bowl would tend to pull the colloidal silver to the metal and rob it of its electrical charge. And frankly, a plastic water bowl will do the same thing, but over more time than a metal bowl.

Get some cheap glass bowls at Wal Mart and see if that helps.

As for getting rid of the stain in the cat's lower lip, I'm not sure. Have you tried a bath rag and warm water?

Anonymous said...

Thank you for the quick reply. I'm using a glass bowl and, yes, I've tried washing the area with a wash cloth, mineral soap, and warm water. The stain remained. Now I'm really perplexed. I'll discontinue the CS for a few days and see if it abates.

Steve Barwick said...

Yes, let me know.

I have four big dogs and have given them all silver on many occassions over the past 13 years, and have never seen that phenomena.

Are you using pure steam-distilled water to make your colloidal silver?

Or are you giving your cat store bought colloidal silver? (Not that store bought v/s homemade would make any difference. I'm just curious.)

I can't understand how you're getting a reddish ring around the glass bowl, unless there's something in the water. Are you adding colloidal silver to tap water by any chance?

Spencer,

I read your report about how you use the CS with your pets. I have a neurotic Tonkinese who screams all the time, and an orange male tabby who has developed either a neurological tick of some kind or he's got something seriously wrong with his leg. I've been putting some CS on the place he keeps licking down to blood. It seems to be showing a slight improvement, and he doesn't shake his paw as much as he used to before CS. I would like to put some CS in their water bowl, but don't know if it's done by weight or what. The Tonkinese is only 8 pounds, and the tabby is 18 pounds! I don't want to make any mistakes because my boy has had serious neurological problems in the past and I nearly lost him, he was on predisone and lasik (sp?). Could you guide me a little?

I'm looking forward to finding your book and reading it soon! God bless and Merry Christmas!

Sharon

Hi Sharon,

Colloidal silver is for infections, so I'm not sure how that relates to the issues you mention below, except maybe the tabby with the leg licking problem, were it to get infected.

With our cats, we simply put one small glass bowl of micro-particle colloidal silver next to their regular water bowl. When they want the silver water, they'll drink it. And when they don't, they'll ignore it and drink their regular water. At least, that's our experience with our cats. Yours may differ.

Some people simply put a teaspoonful of 10 ppm colloidal silver into their pet's water bowl each time after they clean it out and add fresh water. That's probably fine. But colloidal silver has a tendency to bond with minerals in regular water, which weakens its effectiveness. That's why I've always simply put the little glass bowl of pure micro-particle colloidal silver next to our cat's water bowl, and let him choose when and how much to drink. Our cat's have shown a remarkable ability to know when they need the silver water, and when they don't.

There is a company called Only Natural Pet (www.OnlyNaturalPet.com) and they sell all-natural pet food as well as supplies. But they also sell nutritional supplements for pets. You can go to their web site, scroll down to the bottom of their home page, and click on "Ask a Question," and tell them more about your cat's various problems, and they'll write back and let you know what natural supplements might be appropriate for resolving the problem.

You can also click on their link to "Discussion Groups" and then click on "Cat Discussions" and then choose a discussion topic like "Holistic Cat Health Care" and discuss your cat's various problems with other cat owners who are into natural remedies for their pets.

I know our Black Labrador was licking and chewing on his front leg just above one paw, and it would frequently be raw at the spot he licked and chewed. We wrote and they recommended putting him on doggie vitamins, which we did. And it resolved his problem. Apparently it was a vitamin B deficiency.

Hope that helps...

Regards,
Spencer

Thanks Spencer for your time and reply! I've already written to OnlyNaturalPet.com per your suggestion. I feel hopeful that they'll come up with something. I'll also try putting a bowl of pure CS next to the plain water and see how that works for them both.

Thanks again and may Christ be in your heart and life,
Sharon

I see that you put the CS in your dog's water......I need to know what amount to use for my cat Chucki who has suffered a variety of things since June, including a great loss of weight. Just to note his blood tests are all normal. He has asthma which right now has CLEAR LUNGS (vet visit this week).

His gum by one molar is painful and red.
This is what I need to address, how would you do it.....???? Will just drops in the water be enough? Or do I need to squirt some on the gum of the 10 ppm solution??? He is at a dangerous weight loss and I know part of this is due to that painful gum, he doesn't want to eat.....I really really appreciate your help,
Blessings, JL

Steve Barwick said...

Hi JL,

There are times when you just need to take your pet to the vet, and from what you've stated in your comment above, this may be one of them.

I'm not a veterinarian, and I don't treat specific health ailments on my pets. I pretty much leave that to the veterinarian.

But if a pet is not feeling well, first I'll set out a bowl full of homemade colloidal silver, next to their regular water bowl, and let them choose how much they want to drink. I give it to them straight. But I have friends who dilute 10 ppm colloidal silver by 50% using distilled water.

In my personal experience, animals aren't like humans. They instinctively know what they need, and how much they need. When we set a bowl full of colloidal silver out for our cats or dogs, right next to their regular water bowl, and they drink how much they want. And in many cases, they get well and we don't have to take them to the vet.

I'm not recommending that's what you do. I'm just stating that's what we have done in the past many times.

If your cat has an abscessed tooth then colloidal silver might not help at all, because the infection would be deep in the root where the colloidal silver would have a hard time getting at it. I've used colloidal silver before on my own teeth, when I needed a root canal and could not afford it. And it worked very well. I was able to avoid the root canal for years. But I had to hold colloidal silver in my mouth for ten or 15 minutes at a time, so that the tiny silver particles had a chance to soak down into the gums and root of the tooth. And I'd do this two or three times a day whenever the offending tooth would act up.

I sincerely doubt you can get a cat to do that. Cats just can't hold the silver in their mouth long enough to allow the particles to seep down into the gums surrounding the root.

So...it looks like you need to get the cat back to the vet. Sorry. I wish I could be of more help in this matter. But we have to be realistic, and take proper care of our animals. Since you have indicated your animal may even be starving because of being unable to eat with the tooth infection, I would think the vet needs to be visited, and the sooner the better.

Regards,
Spencer

Hello, Thank you for the information. I was sick for 4 months from a virus and used colloidal silver for 2 days and started to feel better. Thanks to your blog I am going to give it to my dog because he has been very lethargic with a drippy nose. I think you are AWESOME for rescuing the animals that you find abandoned in the desert! Nothing makes me happier than people helping animals! If only more people did the same. Take care!

I am curious if you have ever used this for clogged tear ducts? I have a Cocker Spaniel that has clogged ducts right now and I want to try this before I take her in to get the procedure done. It's way cheaper, and she wouldn't have to be put out for this. Also, if you have used it for eye stuff, did you do it in just a water form or drops in the eyes?
Thank you for your input, and hope you can answer this for me :)

Hi,
I found 2 feral kittens 2 weeks ago.I've been bottle feeding them and up until yesterday morning all has been going well. One of the kittens, actually the one who seemed to be really thriving started refusing food. By noon I was worried enough to take them to the vet. She thinks the kitten is septic and gave me fluids and antibiotics and wished me luck. I could tell that she didn't think the prognosis was good, but didn't want to be discouraging to me. I've been up all night trying to get him to eat and injecting fluids under his skin. I watched him decline yesterday and I don't know if he's going to make it. It's heartbreaking. So exhausted last nite, I prayed for help, and found myself looking at colloidal silver for animals on the internet. I had a bottle of silver that I have used for colds, flus and sinus infections. So I started giving him some via eyedropper. he has vehemently been refusing food/the bottle, but he would lap a little from the end of the eyedropper. So I started giving him as much as he would take every hour. He is still very sick but alive and I didn't think he would make it thru the nite. All I have is 250ppm colloidal silver and I noticed that you talk about 10ppm I can dilute it to 10ppm but my question is; given his condition would the 250ppm be better for now he will only take a few drops at a time? Do I need to be concerned about too much? and would you be inclined to inject it under the skin with the fluids he is getting? I know your disclaimers about not being a vet.... I am asking you pet owner to pet owner, what would you do since you have more experience with CS than I do. I hope you will see and answer today, thank you..jenn

Steve Barwick said...

If this were my cat, under the same circumstances, here's my considerations:

The 250 ppm colloidal silver probably won't hurt the cat at all, as long as you are only giving it a few drop at a time.

I wouldn't inject straight colloidal silver under its skin! You have to know how to make an isotonic solution to inject colloidal silver, otherwise it will lyse (burst) the cells because it is not osmotically balanced.

Considering the state of emergency, I might consider mixing a mere drop or two of the colloidal silver into the fluids that are being injected (I'm assuming this is basically a saline or sugar solution to help keep the cat hydrated), but I would watch it carefully after injection for any unusual reaction (excessive swelling, bruising, etc.) and would not do it again if there was any bad reaction whatsoever.

I pray that God blesses your efforts to save the cat...please know you'll be in my prayers!

This site has been most helpful today. Thank you all for your input especially about the desert animals and various infections. Having once lived in the desert I enjoyed your introduction. Right now I live in a neighborhoodwhere there are too many animals, in the Deep South. Ringworm has surfaced and I think one of the cats that hangs around my house has it. I have been thinking maybe CS could help kill off the fungus spores and save the vet expense. I still have to disinfect the porch and patio and screened in area plus the family room where she has been playing. After reading this today I began with a sponge bath of CS which she did not protest because it is so very hot right now. Any suggestions you might have to prevent the spread to the other cats and kittens and dogs and puppies around here (not to mention the humans!) will be appreciated. Based on what I read here today I started adding a little CS to their shared drinking water on the porch. Thanks, Spencer Jones for your thorough blog. My cat blog is not as specific.

Colloidal silver should do the trick but if you find that your cat has a stubborn case, you should try adding some Melaleuca essential oil (also called Tea Tree Oil). Tea Tree oil by itself is highly antifungal, and there's some new research I'll be writing about soon that demonstrates combining Tea Tree Oil with colloidal silver makes for a doubly powerful antifungal remedy.

Re the post on June 30, 2010. Is Tea Tree Oil safe for cats? I've read that it could be harmful? Thank You

Steve Barwick said...

I have no personal experience with using tea tree oil on cats. However, from what I've read, it is indeed apparently toxic to cats. Apparently, their liver cannot handle it.

Hi there!

We have also found this website to be very helpful!

We have a 6 year old black lab, who has developed swollen lymph nodes all over his body, in seemingly one day.

We tried giving him a couple antibiotics which only made him very lethargic and finally took him to an emergency vet yesterday.

The woman said that it was most likely lymphoma but we still need to get his blood work done on Thursday.

We would like to start him on a holistic treatment as opposed to chemo or radiation therapy, as he is such a high spirited and energized dog.

Do you have an recommendations on what natural things we can do to help him? We are going to start giving him colloidal silver but was wondering if you had a recommended dosage for his case? Are there any other herbs or holistic items that you could recommend?

We are very devastated so any assistance would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Thanks again!

Hi Very Vintage,

I'm not a veterinarian, I'm a journalist. So I can only report what I've seen. I'm not qualified to prescribe.

The most important thing is to listen to your veterinarian. Lymphoma is very serious.

I have never had a pet with lymphoma, so unfortunatley I don't have anything to report to you on that front.

Here is a testimonial from a colloidal silver user whose pet cat got stomach cancer. He healed it using colloidal silver and an anti-cancer herbal tea from the health food store called Flor*Essence tea:

"One of my felines came down with stomach cancer and would spew blood all over her chest. This started about a year and one-half ago. I treated her daily with Colloidal Silver Water 15-21 ppm that I made, dispensed through an eye-dropper with at least 6 eye-dropper doses usually six to eight times daily. I also gave her 6 eyedropper doses of undiluted Flor*Essence tea before she ate, about six to eight times daily. Within three months, she was healed, and is now as rowdy and playful as ever.”

You also might get some ideas to propose to your veterinarian from the testimonials in the following article about colloidal silver and cancer. While it is mostly about PEOPLE who have used colloidal silver as part of their natural protocol to heal cancer, some of the information might prove helpful to you. The link is: http://thesilveredge.com/cancer.shtml

Best of luck, and we'll keep your black lab in prayer. The black labs are one of my all-time favorite dogs. Such sweet dispositions. I wish you the very best. Please let us know how it works out.

Regards,
Spencer

Thanks

I think you'll be quite surprised at how well colloidal silver works on pet infections like what you've described.

Hello,
one of my cats (i'm not sure which one) is urinating blood (i presume its a uti) a friend that lives above me gave me a bottle of colloidal silver, that he made with a colloidal silver generator, i have never tried it with my cats, I got quick question, is it safe for both cats (since i dont know which one it is) and how much should I give them?

Steve Barwick said...

You might get some ideas of how to use colloidal silver for your cats, from the following reader's testimonials:

"Using the standard colloidal silver concentration produced during a three-hour generation from our Micro-Particle Colloidal Silver Generator, we have successfully "cured" two different infections that conventional medicine has not consistently addressed.

In particular, 'Bruiser', the Japanese Bobtail shown with me in this picture was sentenced to certain death by a local vet who declared that the kitty's illness indicated by lab tests was FIP (feline infectious peritonitis) and was incurable. Three other vets confirmed the FIP and the death sentence, including an area alternative medicine vet who refused my suggestion to try colloidal silver, and "abused" the kitty with vitamin shots (to no avail).

For the first few months after Bruiser's veterinarians failed to address FIP, my wife and I gave him an eyedropper full (approximately 1 teaspoon) several times daily. His appetite improved quickly and he started playing with his sister again, so we reduced the dosage to several times a week.

Bruiser is now another five years older (total six+ years) and is well and healthy. We occasionally fill an eye dropper and give him a 'drink' if he seems to be feeling lethargic.

We feel that colloidal silver performed miraculously, where conventional 'cat medicine' and veterinarians failed the test."

Here's another testimonial from a fellow cat lover:

Here's another one that might give you some ideas:

"Colloidal silver has saved my cat's life! He developed a horrible bladder infection that the antibiotics from the vet didn't really clear up. Put straight CS in his water bowl and within a couple of days saw marked improvement. He had a flare up a few months later which we attacked only with CS, and he hasn't had a problem since! My dh had a bladder infection and cured it with CS. He drank a LOT of it over a period of about a week, never went to the doc. This stuff is really good!"

Here's another testimonial from a cat lover:

"One of the uses that we use CS for is on our cats. We have outside cats that have never seen a vet. Before Colloidal Silver was being used their health was marginal. Kittens in the past would have these serious eye infections shortly after birth, but by using CS spray on the 2 most recent litters of kittens the infections were under control on the 1st group (they were born just before we got our generator) and the second, most recent litter, there were no infections at all. We started spraying their eyes about 2 weeks after birth. B.T.W.---the females are spayed now---no more litters----but we use CS in all of the cats food (about a tbsp. per bowl) twice a day. They are looking great!!!!!"

Here's another:

"My mom and dad were going away for the weekend and noticed on their way out that the outdoor cat was in bad shape, very lethargic and very sick. They figured she would be dead when they returned. However, they filled up the water bowl with colloidal silver and went on their way. When they returned the water bowl was completely empty and the cat was her old healthy self again. They were amazed, as I had just told them about the recommendation to use it on pets a short time before that. We have used colloidal silver on our cat for severe bladder infection and on our German Shepherd for sores on the tips of his ears. Both uses were successful!"

Here’s one from the Colloidal Silver Secrets Group on Facebook. Carol L. posted about treating her 15 lb. cat for a bladder infection that was so bad, the veterinarian wasn’t able to cure it with $325 worth of treatment and antibiotics. Here’s what she said:

“I gave my cat 1 teaspoon of silver, from a syringe, for 3 days. I then put four ounces of silver in about 4 cups of drinking water for 10 days. Whooo hoooo! Bladder infection gone. Thank you for your suggestions ♥”

Hi, I am just getting into learning about colloidal silver and I had bought some but I'm afraid either I got some that isn't a good product or it does not work. The reason I say that is that I tried to give it to my dog and she will not touch it! She is my baby, a German Shepherd puppy, only 8 months old and showing definite signs of hip and elbow dysplasia! I am desperately trying to find something to help her. I can't stand to watch her in her energetic puppy play, limping horribly, almost not using her one leg. I tried to keep her off her feet but how do you do that to a puppy full of so much energy. She doesnt let it stop her at all. Anyway, I offered her the CS and she wouldnt touch it. I am on a farm and have always had rescue animals and many times have had to administer medications for one thing or another so I used a syringe (without the needle of course) and just made her take it. After a half hour she acted like she had drank a dose of Mt.Dew~ That could have been just her normal play though. Can I get your thoughts on this? Thank you for any advice you can offer.
Linda

I'm not sure how colloidal silver would help with dysplasia, except perhaps in helping alleviate the pain. (See Colloidal Silver and Pain, a Surprising Look at http://www.thesilveredge.com/Colloidal%20Silver%20and%20Pain.shtml).

Colloidal silver is mostly for treating underlying infections. My understanding is that dysplasia is not caused by infection, usually.

The following web site has some interesting natural remedies listed for dealing with dysplasia in pets: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+1569&aid=444

As for getting your pup to drink the colloidal silver willingly, it may be too strong. You didn't say how strong the solution was. But when you taste it, if it has a very strong metallic taste, that may be what's putting the puppy off. Try diluting it by half, if that's the case, and then see if the pup will drink it. If not, you can try adding a teaspoonful per day to the pup's regular water bowl.

My dog has a topical infection of the eyes (as diagnosed by the vet). Neither gentamyacin nor terramyacin have helped. Can colloidal silver drops be used in his eyes to combat this?

Spencer Jones said...

I'm not a veterinarian, so don't take anything I say as being prescriptive. But I've personally used colloidal silver in my own eyes successfully to treat eye infections, as well as in the eyes of various pets I've had, including dogs and cats. I just put two or three drops in each eye, three times a day for a few days until the infection is gone. It usually works very quickly, in my own experience.

I have a 10 pound dog that from time to time has stomach ailments that we suspect are from eating something he shouldn't. I had never heard of using colloidal silver on dogs until reading your comment on the Mercola site - was so glad you shard the link to your blog! Anyway, I already have on hand some colloidal silver that says it is "70 mcg of pure silver." The other ingredient listed is "deionized water." This is a Nature's Sunshine product. Can I use this? And, not sure of the difference in "mcg" and "ppm" so don't know about strength/potency of what I have.

Steve Barwick said...

Curly, based on the description on their web site, I'm guessing that Nature's Sunshine product is ASAP Colloidal Silver, privately labeled by Nature's Sunshine. If so, it's a very good product. At 70 mcg. of silver, it's probably around 14 ppm in solution. You should be able to use that just fine for your dog. If it were mine, I'd add a teaspoonful to his wet food, each day, and put a tablespoonful or more in his water bowl, and see how that works out. I'm not prescribing, because I'm not a vet. But I'm musing about what I'd do if it were my dog and that was the only colloidal silver I had available.

Hi, I have a cat that is seven years old. she just shut down and stopped eating or drinking water. I took her to the vet and they said she has Jaundice. Her skin in her ears is a yellow color. Its been two days and I have been giving her antibiotics and pedialyte. She still will not eat. I have been force feeding with a syringe but last night i was horrified. She gaged and gaged until she threw up all the food I have feed her. I have not seen her use the litter box. I am so scared that Kimmy will die. I was reading this blog and sent my boyfriend to by the colloidal silver 30ppm. I want to try this today and see what happens to her. Should I continue the antibiotics and continue the force feeding? Please help i am desperate

Steve Barwick said...

We're not veterinarians, dear. So we can't tell you what to do for a specific medical condition, or the medical authorities will shut us down. If your cat has jaundice then it sounds like liver disease. Didn't the veterinarian tell you any more than that, or offer any kind of treatment? Colloidal silver might help, or it might not, depending upon what the reason for the jaundice is. For example, if your cat ate some poison and it damaged the cat's liver, there's nothing colloidal silver can do for that. It is chiefly an infection-fighting agent.

Dear all,

I am trying to find some more information regarding the use of colloidal silver for cats. Unfortunatelly on czech web sites there are not many information.

My adult cat has positive mycoplasma and pasteurela. I am using colloidal silver 25ppm - 9 ml once a day. First 3 days I used 3x 9 ml. This is some universal use for cats I found - 2 ml for kg of weight. But I think that is not enough. Same concentration I use for his eyes (2 drops daily) and also for his skin because he has microsporum canis. Could you please advice me how strong concentration I can use and how often, how long ...

Thank you very much in advance

Petra

I'm not a veterinarian, and I don't know of any clinical studies on colloidal silver and cats that would answer your question. However, with my own cats I've given them as much as several ounces a day of 10 ppm, for short periods of time. However, over time I found that if I just put an ounce or two of colloidal silver in their water bowl, and let them drink it only when they want it, they'll drink as much as they want and then stop. I do the same for my dogs. Dogs and cats seem to have an innate understanding that colloidal silver is good for them. At least, that's been my personal experience. Many people have told me that when they put a bowl of water with colloidal silver mixed into it, right next to their cat's or dog's regular water bowl, the animal will drink from the bowl with the colloidal silver every time.

Hello!
Thank you for this post. My husband and I gave yesterday a temporary shelter for a dog who had been left on the street for over a week after it had been hit by car, so he's in a really bad shape - infections and everything. We have been using the silver for some time now, but never on pets (luckily our dogs are never sick)so this blog was really helpful. I think I'll treat this new dog with some silver, thanks to you, I see it won't hurt.

Hi

I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar problem that they found collidal silver aided with.

We got our dog in 2008 when she was 10 weeks old from the SPCA. They said she was a Shepard lab mix. Lab yes, maybe boxer or mastiff or maybe even pitbull. She actually looks amazingly similar to the dog in the picture at the top of the page.
In September 2009 she all of a sudden had this thing with her mouth. She had foul breath, drooling and couldn't yawn without wincing in pain. During the fall 2009 we had multiple tests done including a biopsy of her cheek ( which was red and inflamed , but only one side the other was still quite pink ) we tried numerous exspendive medications and we tried prednisone. The prednisone caused her to lose control of her bladder. We found that flagyl given twice a day for 10 days would give her about three weeks of relief. Now we are getting only about a week and a half to two weeks between ending pills and it flaring back up. We have had allergy testing done and we have her on the food that is the least likely to effect her. We even had her on raw diet that didn't have any foods in it that appeared in her allergy test. The only thing we never changed was water. So today I boiled tap water , not knowing if she had a problem with chlorine or flouride. I was given the advice to try spraying collidal silver into her mouth twice a day after she eats. We have tried everything else, I am more than willing to use the collidal silver.

So my question is, has anyone else had a similar problem. The vet thought that maybe our dog has a reaction to her own plaque which causes this flare up. We can't brush her teeth because it is painful for her, she doesn't like the doggie mouthwash sprayed in her mouth. I tried salt water as I read that it can change the ph of the mouth. The salt water actually seemed to work a bit better but she didn't like the taste too much.

From what I understand cats have this same problem.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi there, I've been an avid user of colloidal silver for years now but have recently added a labrador puppy to the family. I'd like to know two things:
1) She has a yeast infection in the ears, is it better to add a few drops directly into the ears or let her drink the Colloidal water?

2) Will the Colloidal silver strengthen her immune system like it does for humans or should I wait till she is a little older?

Thanks mate.. Really appreciate all the information you're giving on your site. Keep it up!
Nick

Hey Nick,

A man after my own heart -- I love Labradors too!

I'm not a veterinarian, so I can't give specific advice. But generally speaking an ear infection won't respond nearly as well to oral colloidal silver as it will to colloidal silver placed directly into the ears. I've done this many times, most recently on my 7 year old shepherd/pit mix, and it generally works like a charm. I usually use 10 ppm colloidal silver and put a full eyedropper or two into the ear, and hold it shut for a few minutes, massaging the ear until and allowing the silver solution to get down deep into the ear canal. Then I allow the dog to shake it out. Good luck and let us know how it works out!

Anonymous, colloidal silver mostly kills single-celled microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and viruses. Therefore, most experts say colloidal silver will kill the single-celled egg stage of parasites, but not the multi-celled adult stage. What this means is that while it might eradicate any parasite eggs, the adult parasites will still be in the body, and still be producing additional eggs. So you'd have to continue giving the animal the colloidal silver on an ongoing basis. Probably better to find a good, natural parasite cleanse for your animal, so you can get rid of the adult stage. Then give the animal colloidal silver for awhile to get rid of any residual parasite eggs before they hatch. Again, I'm not a veterinarian. That's just what I'd do with my own pets.

Steve Barwick said...

Hi Stacey,

The dog in the photo is my buddy, Brownie. He's also a shepherd mix, but we when we asked what he's mixed with we were only told "sneaky bastard neighbor dog next door." My suspicion all along has been Mastiff or Pit.

Regarding your pet's problem, I've never heard of this. The idea a dog could be allergic to his or her own plaque is interesting. There's an article you might find interesting called "Colloidal Silver Tames the Dental Plaque Monster" at this link: http://www.thesilveredge.com/plaque.shtml

I'm wondering if pouring your dog a nice big glass bowlful of colloidal silver and setting it next to his water bowl, and allowing him to choose which to drink, might help. My dogs seem to have an innate ability to know when they need colloidal silver. If they dont' need it, they simply won't drink it. But when they are feeling under the weather, it's amazing that they'll sometimes drink an entire bowlful and I'll actually have to refill. it sometimes twice in a day. Then once they're feeling well they go back to drinking their regular water and ignoring the colloidal silver.

I'm not a veterinarian, so this is just conjecture, but if it were me I'd certainly see if drinking the colloidal silver would help the dog. I rarely try to dose my big dogs anymore. I just let them drink as much or as little as they want.

If you are buying colloidal silver at a health food store or online vendor, you might have to mix it half and half with distilled water to get them to drink it, as store bought colloidal silver often has a bitter, metallic taste the dogs don't like sometimes. But if you're making your own that may not be as much a problem.

Let me know how this works out, okay?

to everyone posting, if you love your pets always give the holistic way a try first - vets only know pills and surgeries, they are not taught anything else. I ran around for months begging people to give my cat a B12 shot because he was dragging his hind legs behind him due to some nerve connection and finally a holistic vet gave him a B12 shot, all others had no clue or said they don't do it or wanted to operate. A few drops and a few weeks and now my baby is walking and running like a normal cat. Another cat of mine who happens to be 124 yrs old had diarrhea and the vet put her on antibiotics, It worked for a few weeks than the bacteria came back. Coloidal Silver worked great. She's still playing and running around. BUT I want to stress mostly, that holistic medicine works best if you don't pollute the body at the same time, so please feed your pets grain free food. A cat would never go eat corn in the wild and ignore the birdie or a mouse. Regular food has only 20% meat, and mostly fillers, chemicals and additives. Grain free food will keep your pets healthy and make the holistic meds work better. God bless all good loving pet owners who feed their pets a healthy diet, keep them indoors and spay and neuter! ;)

I only have 30 PPM, can I dilute it so I can give it to my pets. They have an upper respiratory infection which basically has to run it's course but I thought this would help them.

Steve Barwick said...

Yes, of course. Just be sure to use pure, steam-distilled water (Walmart has it for about a buck a gallon) when you dilute it, and not tap water or any other kind of water. If you pour out one ounce of your 30 ppm into a glass container, and then add two ounces of distilled water, you'll then have three ounces of about 10 ppm colloidal silver.

We have a 8 year old neutered male GS and he has had perianal fistulas for about 3 years now. The vets have said there's nothing that can be done to get rid of them except maintenance, which consists of prescription drugs. Luckily human form, as they would cost a fortune if I had to purchase them from the vet. I buy them at Costco, but the cost is still high, about $180 a month.

He is on a no grain dry dog food plus the same wet food "Natural Balance- Salmon & Sweet Potato." He has food and environmental allergies, about 15 in total. The spring is the worst time of the year for him. If left unattended or not wearing his cone, he chews right down to his skin until it bleeds and is raw. Normally, Topegen spray works, and if not, he then has to go on antibiotics. After reading about Colloidal Silver, I am VERY interested in trying it out. We feel so bad for him and at times we feel the best thing would be to just put him down.

He's such a great dog and loves eveybody (like Doug, the dog in the movie "Up"). I know your not a vet, pharmacist, etc., but have your dogs been on medication while giving them colloidal silver?

I will ask our vet about it, but if they're unfamiliar with it they won't have a clue.

We have a horse vet who is very holistic and has said most things in a persons kitchen can/will heal a horses ailments. Like unpasterized honey, table sugar and oils. I'll send him a txt and ask. He hates pharmaceutical companies and only uses about 2-3 types of prescription medications for treatment, as well as antibiotics, there are times you just can't go without them. Other then that, he prescribes holistic type treatments.

We live in Canada, so I'm not sure if we can get colloidal silver as easy as in the US, so I'll have to look into it, or just order from the website you get yours from.

I'm crossing my fingers colloidal silver works. He so deserves to lives in a pain, itch and cone of shame free life.

In response to anonymous above: I'm not a vet either but I do use Colloidal Silver faithfully on my dog who has a staph bacterial infection in her left ear. I took her to see a holistic vet who put her on Graviola drops 3 drops x 3 times per day and also Colloidal Silver at 30 ppm - 1 tsp per day (she's 14lbs). I'm crossing my fingers that this will all work. If you can find a holistic vet in your area, it is very beneficial for you to take your GS to see one. I'm sure if you put Colloidal silver in a spray bottle and sprayed your dog in the meantime this would give him relief from his environmental allergies. Also I'm feeding my dog Raw Food (no more kibble or wet food). This could make a difference as well. Good Luck!

My white German shepherd has pink fur around her mouth and rear. The vet said it is a bacteria neither good or bad and he could give her drugs but it would only be for aesthetics. Anonymous, I'm not a veterinarian, so I can't "prescribe" how to treat any specific illness. But in general, I add an ounce of 10 ppm colloidal silver to each 8 oz of water in my dog's water bowl, when I'm giving them colloidal silver. If there's a particular problem, then for a short period of time (i.e., four days to a week) I might use a plastic syringe (without the needle, of course), or a simple turkey baster, to administer an ounce or so per day of colloidal silver to my larger dogs, orally, several times a day. (In other words, I slowly squirt the colloidal silver into their mouths.) You might want to watch the following video on how to administer colloidal silver to dogs and other pets: http://thesilveredge.com/video-pets-and-colloidal-silver.shtml

Steve Barwick said...

Ruby Red, I hate to sound like a broken record, but I can't "prescribe" how to treat pets, as I'm not a veterinarian. All I can do is report on what I've read, or done, or have seen other people do. For my own dogs, I simply use an eye dropper to put three to four drops of 10 ppm colloidal silver directly into the ear. I only do so once per day, and only for two or three days at most. I've found, personally, that if colloidal silver doesn't work quickly, it isn't going to work at all for that particular situation. Here's a video on how to administer colloidal silver to the ears (this is a video on how to do so for humans, but it works the same way for pets): http://thesilveredge.com/video-cure-an-earache-with-colloidal-silver.shtml

Hi,

I know you are not a vet, but I need some advice on the dosage for treating my beloved cat who has a cancerous tumour with CS. My cat has a large tumour (fibro sarcoma) on her hind leg that is growing rapidly and the skin is now starting to split and scab. The vets can't do anything for her except pain meds, I have been treating her with holistic formulas for about 3 months which have helped her overall but won't shrink the tumour. A friend just told me about using CS topically on the tumour and I have read some posts of people who have treated animals with cancer. Can I use it topically and internally, and what dosage? I have read you can use higher doses topically. Any advice would be appreciated, I have no other alternatives at this point. Thank you.

Hi Elizl,

Well, it's true, I am not a veterinarian and therefore I can't speak to specific treatments of a specific ailment in a specific animal. All I can do, legally, is report in general.

You might want to read the article "Colloidal Silver and Cancer" for some ideas to run past your vet for implementation into your cat's ongoing nutritional protocol. The article can be found here: http://thesilveredge.com/cancer.shtml

I found one of the anecdotal accounts from the article pretty interesting and insightful:

“One of my felines came down with stomach cancer and would spew blood all over her chest.

Hello. I was wondering if you had any experiences with CS helping dogs with diarrhea?? I have a 60lb pit bull mix- very loveable and wouldnt hurt a fly. Yesterday she had a problem with going to the bathroom. She looked like she was straining, too, which was really confusing. I was just wondering if maybe you had any experience with CS alleviating diarrhea in your dogs?

Jennifer, I've had one dog with diarrhea that was helped a lot by giving him colloidal silver. I just used a plastic syringe (no needle, of course) to squirt it gently into his mouth, as demonstrated in this short video: http://thesilveredge.com/video-pets-and-colloidal-silver.shtml

Where do you buy colloidal silver? Are there different brands?

Steve Barwick said...

Lance, just about every health food store in America sells colloidal silver. You can also buy it on Amazon.com or SwansonVitamins.com, or a hundred other websites. Better still, you can make high-quality colloidal silver yourself, at home, for just pennies per quart, with a device called a colloidal silver generator. My neighbor has killed 3 of his dogs using colloidal silver. The last one is now vomiting with a blue tongue and he keeps upping her dosage. She should be dead soon as well. So sad this information is being giving to people to help dogs. It's proven the dosage considered safe for dogs is more than 100 times less than that for humans.

Steve Barwick said...

If this is true, Stephen, the neighbor should be reported to animal control for cruelty to animals. There are always going to be idiots who use colloidal silver (or other substances) abusively. But that doesn't mean those who use it responsibly shouldn't be able to.

You claim that "It's proven the dosage considered safe for dogs is more than 100 times less than that for humans." I'd like you to document that for me. If you do, and it's authoritative documentation, I'll use it in future updates on using colloidal silver for animals.

I would point out, however, that in the rare circumstances when I've taken my dogs to the veterinarian, and the vet has prescribed drugs, the drugs are generally higher in dosage than a human would take. When I've asked why, the vet has told me dogs have a far higher metabolism than humans and thus need a higher dosage, at least with some of the prescription drugs. I do not know if this carries over to natural substances like colloidal silver. But I've had six rescue dogs in the past 20 years, I've treated all of them with colloidal silver when they had infections, and none of them ever had their tongues turn blue, nor experienced any negative effects from the colloidal silver. Only positive effects were noted.

So again, just because some nutcase uses colloidal silver abusively, whether on himself or on his animals, is not reason to prevent everyone else from using it. It's a crying shame that's happening to your neighbor's dogs, and once more, I implore you, if this is true, to call animal control and report what you've stated here.

My cat is 17 years old I took her to vet and had to take her stool next day to vet. They could not get any from her at vets. It smelled horrid and was runny like gravy. I was told nothing was wrong with it. How could that be runny like gravy and horrid smelling? I have tried other natural stuff i purchased at medical pet supplies on-line to no avail. So I research colloidal silver and found out I can give it to cats. but I never found out how much. My cat is 6 LBs at least that is what her weight was at vet. I'm giving it to her just guessing. The bottle's dropper does not have any measure on it. Yesterday I spent $41 for some medication that stops diarrhea in cats on-line still waiting for it. I gave it(silver) to her 3 days now with only a little improvement. So can you please tell me how much a day for a 6 lb cat? I'm worried I'm not giving enough or to much. Thank you in advance.

I can't give specific advice for pet medical conditions, as I'm not a veterinarian. But there's another article with lots of real-life anecdotal accounts of how people gave colloidal silver to their pets for various ailments, and you might be able to get some ideas there. See this link: http://thesilveredge.com/colloidal-silver-for-dogs-cats-horses-reptiles-and-other-pets.shtml

In the past, when my own cats have been sick, I've rarely given them more than four eyedroppers full per day of 10 ppm strength colloidal silver. When they're well, I don't give them any at all, unless they're outdoor cats prone to mousing and stuff like that, then I give them an eyedropper full or two, several times a week, just as a precaution.
